Got my C&R in the mail today. I bought the M.O. on 8-3, so that was fast.
I put the original in Dad's safe, made a few copies and ran to the PO to get some stamps. That brings up a question. I guess I should keep it here?

I remember (but can't find the thread after searching for a while) that a few members here had a list of dealers and addresses they were willing to share.
Also if somebody has a form letter already saved that would be helpful.

Another question I couldn't find an answer to. If I go to a local shop and buy a Glock for example, do I still have to fill out the form and pay for the background check since I am now a FFL holder..?

Thanks in advance

Afraid so... Your FFL03 is only good for C&R eligible firearms. As far as the modern stuff goes, your still just another "civilian".

I was afraid of that but wanted to make sure. Kinda silly but I guess they want an "instant" check in case I commited a felony after I got the license.
Same holds true for CCW license holders too.

OK, this is gonna take a while (given my typing skills) but here's where I've sent mine:

Brownell's 200 South Front Street Montezuma, IA 50171 (no firearms, but great discounts)
AIM Surplus P.O. Box 556 Springboro, OH 45066
Centerfire Systems 102 Fieldview Drive Versailles, KY 40383
Cole Distributing P.O. Box 247 Scottsville, KY 42164
Midway U.S.A. 5875 W. Van Horn Tavern Road Columbia, MO 65203 (no firearms, but great discounts)
Makarov.com 318-C Winfield Road St. Albans, WV 25177 (soon to stop selling firearms)
Century International Arms 430 South Congress Ave. Delray Beach, FL 33445
Southern Ohio Gun P.O. Box 590 Lebanon, OH 45036
I.O. Inc. P.O. Box 847 Monroe, NC 28111
Classic Arms Inc. P.O. Box 125 Indian Trail, NC 28079

I've bought C&R firearms from AIM, Makarov.com, Century, and S.O.G. and never been disappointed. Also bought some locally (and at shows). The license has paid for itself many times over with the discounts fron Brownells alone :)

I'm sure there are many more...

Thanks PAshooter. Looks like a great list to start with.

Time to change the ink cartridge in my printer.

welcome packet

Also, I have heard other members talk about receiving a "welcome packet" from the ATF. The only thing I received was my license. Wonder if it will be shipped later or has the ATF stopped sending these out..?

I talked to my wife about a week ago about applying for a new CC just to use for gun purchases that I would be responsilble for keeping paid off. That conversation didn't go too well. I'll have to keep working on that idea. :D

midwayusa

They obviously don't seel C&R firearms, but they will give you a dealer discount. It is a pretty good discount on some things. Others just a few cents. It is certainly worth faxing it to them. Look down at the bottom center of the home page and there is a link to dealer support. I already had an account with them and faxed a letter with my account number and a copy of my license. By afternoon I had a dealer discount. Makes you feel kinda special :)

top 3 dealers

Thanks for all the responses and for finding those older threads.

Would some of you mind giving me your top 3 dealers you have purchased from in the past and would recommend...??

Right now I've been leaning toward AIM surplus or JG sales and the garand guy when I get a little more saved up.

Here is a zip file that has an excel file and two word files that I used. I entered the addresses in Excel and did a mail merge in Word. Now that I'm on the mailing lists, I get all kinds of fun C&R propaganda in the mail that my wife gives me disapproving looks for reading through.

Just use the "replace" function in word to enter in your contact info!

what kind of discounts do you get at these top dealers? dose anyone know if you can get a discount at ohio rapid fire?

AIM doesn't discount, AFAIK. Midway and Brownells do, and the discount depends on the item. Powder & ammo: small discount. AR-15 uppers: big discount.

I've bought from AIM, Interarms, ammo from Sportsmans Guide and supplies from Midway and Cabelas and have had superb service from them all.

For supplies and such, Grafs & Sons - grafs.com - has way better dealer pricing than Midway.

My top 3 milsurp vendors:
1. Empire Arms (empirearms.com) - Dennis is THE man for hand selected milsurps
2. Classic Arms (classicarms.us) - Ben is great to deal with and knowledgeble
3. AIM

Honorable mention:
Centerfire systems

Thanks for the link jnojr.

Got my "welcome kit" today.

Haven't sent a copy to Empire Arms yet but they are on my list.
