In my Foxhole
i see two problems with the saiga trigger.

1. its made of plastic. yech.
2. horrendous pull.

can i swap it out with parts? no, i dont want to do an ak conversion - i just want to improve the trigger.

I don't think Saiga is a plastice trigger, just seems like it, very cheapy thin, almost tin-like sheet metal. I have not seen a mod yet, to make it lighter, but you can replace the trigger group, with some typical ak double hook trigger groups, to get a better, shorter pull.

Do you mean the transfer bar?

I should get a picture of the OEM Saiga FCG for everyones reference here...

You can swap parts, buy a Tapco G2 single hook FCG, then make the G2 trigger look like the Russian trigger, that means grinding off the trigger so it looks like the Russian trigger, take the Russian FCG out and install the G2, you will have to tweak it a bit to use it with the funny transfer bar system and so the BHO still works, but it will give you a pull around 4 lbs IIRC.

My OEM trigger was close to double that at maybe 8lbs

Better yet contact Dinzag, can sell you a pre-modified G2 that should fit your needs.

And you will not even have to change the appearance of your Saiga, it will look the same, but have a better trigger.

I had some pics of the 7.62x39/223 Saiga FCg and the 308 FCG up here in THR archives of joy, but they've disappeared. Lemme see if I can find them on my local memory stick and put them back up. The link to the Saiga-vs-AK FCG was in the sticky at the top of the Rifle Forum.

My Saiga's trigger was vastly improved when I did the compliant part conversion. I used a Kvar trigger pack.

The best you can do is what MD suggested. Without going to the standard AK configuration, you can't get rid of the y-shaped transfer bar -- which is the root of most of your evil. The down side is that if you modify a G2 trigger, you're going to have to buy a new one if you ever do decide to complete the full conversion.

I suppose a trigger job could be done. It would be heinous though with that transfer bar. Maybe some shimming, adjustment to springs, some smoothing or polishing could improve it.

I don't find the trigger to be bad at all. This isn't a benchrest gun. Most AR-15 standard triggers are worse.

The G2 is an excellent trigger, but that involves converting the rifle.

I'm partial to having the Saiga both ways, they make for a neat AK but they are also cool in the "hunter" configuration, my friend has a Norinco AKM and he didn't recognize the Saiga as an AK derivative when I first showed it to him, he thought it was pretty cool right out of the box too.

Now that I showed him what I did with mine he seemed extra interested in the rifle.

!! Yes I'm a Saiga Fan Boy !!

I agree on the conversion

FMJMIKE - nicely done .223! Love the look of the galil mag.

Here's a pic of my .308 with fbmg 20 round mags:

Used a Red Star fully adjustable trigger in this - its sweet! I also replaced the rear sight with a windage adjustable model.

It's not hard to do the conversion - just need a dremel and hand drill. Here's a link to a how-to site: http://www.cross-conn.com/Saiga_Conversion/index.htm

That rifle looks great OSOK. People need to quit posting pics of those siaga .308s before i have to put myself even further into debt. I'm sure it will eat anything you feed it as well right?

Yes they do! Mine's a Saiga 308 so old, the conversion was performed by Hesse. I had to suffer for years with only a single 8 round magazine, until I recently managed to snag a couple of 20 rounders off gunbroker.
