What is the smallest .45 acp you own?

southpawshootr, would like to find some nice wood grips, but making a one-piece grip would be hard to do I imagine.

I only have two .45 pistols, a SIG Revolution Carry and a Colt Combat Commander, both nearly identically sized. Then there is the Ruger Blackhawk convertible, when I put the .45 ACP cylinder in it. ;)

I'm brushing by the responses because your query is too brief to
give you a useful answer.

* DO you want or prefer a SA only or a Da/SA or a SAO?

* What is the smallest size .45 ACP you can anything with at what range?

* WHat are your requirements for a carry? I.E. what is your size and what clothing are you going to wear as well as the carry rig/style of carry/?

SOrt of like the old joke what does Grandma taste like?

Depends....

I think my query is just fine. I'm not looking for the answer to who formed the universe, just the answer to my question. No need to over-complicate things. I will read all responses and form my own conclusion. I don't want anyone to think for me. :)

Discovery is the KEY

1.Quote: I'm looking for a good .45 for carry. What do y'all suggest?

1. From all I have read, I would agree.

2. Yep, as I use my telescope for the answer to who formed the universe.. ;)

As for DA/SA or SAO, hey, it's in his own experience, as of this post, with guns, along with a comfort level he has, or knows he must learn, step by step.

From my own gun buying experience, I started off DA/SA and safety, which I changed, that gun, quickly, to a decocker-only since.

And, I learned, felt-it, for myself, that the 45 caliber is the best for punch. Recoil, either in full size gun, like my Sig, or small gun, like my Colt, there is very little difference, except as I stated, that between the Colt Defender and the Colt Commander, that I really felt less recoil with the smaller Defender, but that is IMHO.

Knowing what I learned, and know now, 45cal is IMHO the best HD/SD caliber, along with, SAO lock and cock, with thumb safety and palm-grip safety with beaver tail is far better IMO, that DA/SA, as the trigger pull is constant, light, yet sweet, every-time, yet safe, if what is between the ears has been taught well, either thru others, or one's self, correctly.

All decisons one makes, in being as good as one can be, come from within.

Again, best of luck with whatever 45 you choose for ccw/HD/SD, as my big bet would be, it won't be your last gun/pistol you buy.. ;)

PS.. my intent was not to make this too deep, hope that is the case.. lol

Thanks, Lonestar. I shot my friend's Colt 1911 this weekend, and now I'm hooked on getting a .45. I really like the recoil, and .45 is a good man-stopper.

I have had a few 1911's and several other pistols in .45 ACP over the last 35 years.
Only pistol in .45 ACP I own now is a Charles Daly Compact 1911. It fits in a pocket easily, has worked 100%, feels good and shoots accurately. Made by Armscor (Rock Island)- I have owned 3 others in the last few years and all were very reliable and accurate.
Only other .45 ACP handgun I won is a S&W 1917 revolver.

Mark

I have a glock 30 and a S&W 457 both are easy to carry.

But I like the 457 just a little better. I've run over 2000 rounds through it and it runs like a sewing machine. It's got a flat black finish and it takes a real beating. I carry it in a Bianchi #5 black widow.

smallest 45

My Kimber Ultra CDP II is the carry gun I go to when I want to carry something a little "more" than a J frame. I carry in a Milt Sparks IWB or a Galco OWB. I have put lots of rounds through t the range and it has always functioned flawlessly.

Colt Defender - 3 inch barrel

My smallest .45 is my Colt Defender with 3 inch barrel, weighing about 25 ounces empty. It has been a good gun, but I don't think I want to go smaller in a .45.

Would not go under 4inch Barrel.

I do not recommend shooting .45 acp out of anything less then a 4 inch Barrel. If you insist on on having a carry weapon with .45 caliber and less then a 4 inch Barrel. I would go with the Taurus PT 145 and the 10 rd Mag capacity. I would definitely use 185gr Remington Golden Sabers as my Ammo. It would be better to use a .40 caliber if you are going less then a 4 inch barrel. You are going to get better expansion and more punch. If you do not mind a longer Barrel the SW-MP has a very slender design with a 4.5 inch Barrel. You could then use a quality 230gr Ammo such as the Winchester Ranger T or Federal HST.

Te Best to You and Yours!

why is this internet myth still around. maybe 20 years ago when bullet design needed ~1000 fps to expand reliable, bullets nowdays can expand at <800 fps.
doubletaps 230 golddot is still going 875 fps from my 3" ported amt backup,I'm sure fed hst+p would break 850 fps. a 45>40 weather the bbl is 3" or 3'.

My smallest 45s are a Para P-12 and Sig P245, don't know which is smaller. P-12 hold twice the capcity as the Sig(Sig could have made their P-series 45s a double stack)!

Happen to be carrying my Para Ordinance Warthog w/ Night sights..

I also have a Para Ordinance Covert Carry LDA

Don't forget the ultra reliable and accurate Smith and Wesson CS45 (Chief Special45)

I won't.

Mine is light, accurate, and very reliable.

I love the full sized 1911s and trust the commander sized. I however have had less than spectacular results with a number of compact 1911s.

I love my very reliable and accurate "1st generation" Kimber Ultra CDP. As a matter of fact, I'm wearing it right now . . . although you can almost forget it is on!

Ambi safety (I'm a lefty), lightweight aluminum frame, nice "meltdown" package, checkered frontstrap, night sights, adjustable trigger, beveled mag well . . . it is a wonderful CCW .45.
