I've gotta vote for the XD45. I've got the 5" tactical model and love it. I was going to get a G21 but handled both of them and the Glock felt like i was holding the top of a baseball bat in my hand( i wear a size large glove), I'm sure they are great guns, but not comfortable to me, the XD felt very similar to a 1911, slightly larger maybe. I've got about a thousand rounds through and not a single issue with it. Get a few different models in your hand and then you decide. Good luck.

Actually, any of the SOCM requirement guns are fine

I don't think you can go wrong with any of the guns put up for the last round of SOCOM requirement tests. That includes the HK USP, Taurus 24/7 OSS, SW M&P, and the Springfield XD. I personally don't like the Glock but then I grew up with the 1911 and all of the SOCOM guns use the 1911 grip angle. STI makes an excellent high cap 1911 but it is too rich for my blood.

XD or Glock.

My top two would be the Springfield XD or the Glock. No idea what model number Glock, I personally don't like them.

However, the XD-45 is slim (same thickness as a 1911) and holds 13+1 with a reasonable trigger. Accuracy in my Tactical model is good to excellent, depending what kind of day I'm having. 2" groups at 25yds offhand isn't unusual. The only thing mine won't feed is empty cases during malfunction drills. My only gripe is that I'm used to the feel of a 1911 dustcover under my left thumb when shooting. XD's takedown lever gets in the way.

Not being a Glock guy, all I can say is that they are reliable. The downsides for me are grip angle (deal breaker for me) and they're thick (no-go for me, some love the fit).

Glock 21. First choice. I would expect out of the box reliability.

I have 2 Para P13s. A P13.45 (single action) and a Tac-Four. Nice guns. Had to replace the recoil and mag springs before mine would run reliably. Buy one with the understanding that it may need break-in, messing with, or both. From what I can tell, these guns are notoriously undersprung, if that's a real word. Otherwise, they seem to be quality pieces.

I'm sure that XD45s are a good choice as well, but I have no experience with them.

I know several individuals who own XD-45s and they are all very happy with it.

Is the HK twice as good as the XD? Because it looks like it cost twice as much. I've owned a few HKs, and while they have all been relibale and accurate guns, I haven't found them any more so that other guns costing much less. My biggest complaint with their new autos is that they are big for caliber - bigger than comparable guns in the same class. And everything about them is expensive - magazines, parts, etc. I've also had a couple of poor experiences dealing with their customer service.

That being said, the Glock 21, XD-45, HK are all eminently suited to the task. You'd be well served by any. It's a Ford vs Chevy question. The reality is that they are all about equally rugged and reliable - none is clearly superior to the other.

The S&W is too new to have much of a track record, and I've never looked at the Taurus.

I have seen some tests run (book about glock early 90's) Pretty impressive.
For those who don't care for the Glock it is never going to change, similar to the folks who don't like the 1911 A-1.

It is a good gun G mdl 21 std or SF. Simple statement. Simple observation.
I have shot them and many of the other models (calibers).

I was in a gunstore the other day to pick up a Kel-Tec. Talking to the owner, he mentiones that a person (military) just traded in a Glock mdl 21 for a new 1911 A1 :uhoh: Happens all the time he said.
For those who are into the 1911 A1 Gov mdl there is nothing better;)

XD or SW-MP

I have owned three XD .45's I sold one to a friend at work who was looking for a first gun and he Loves it. I still have my other two, a Tactical and Service model. Three XD's and never one failure of any kind after thousands of rounds. The other two things I like about them, besides their reliability. Is the fact that they are accurate and easy to clean. XD is my number one suggestion. The SW-MP comes out in October with a 14 rd mag. I already own a .40 cal MP I want a 9mm and .45. The MP is a Great gun. THE MOST ergonomic gun I have aver owned.:D I do have a Taurus 24/7 .45 I have to say this is also a very nice gun. But I have had one failure to feed in the first 250 rounds, now that is not a lot. But it appears to be a Mag issue. I wish you the Best in your search!

The Best to You and Yours!

Wilson Combat KZ45 holds 10+1 and is of a M1911 configuration.

Second choice would be the H&K.
