My dad and brother and I just finished refurbishing a Hungarian Model 1944 Mosin-Nagant (manufactured in 1953 in Budapest) we bought at a gunshow for 55 dollars
the stock was nasty and the blueing was light, and it not being a WWII relic or anything, we decided to fix it up
We reblued with Birchwood Casey reblue liquid and stripped the stock with stripper, neutralized the pH of the stripper, then applied a coat of stain
followed by 2 coats of tung oil
the results on the stock are very satisafctory and the reblued metal looks 100% better, but not perfect though
the bore has strong rifling with some crud in it, that doesnt want to budge...but yesterday at the range we found out this was one sweet shooter!
we could pop clays at 55 yds standing up about every other shot (we're no snipers)
