are there any links to independent(reliable) studies or reviews that demonstrate the accuracy of current production auto nines beyond 7 yards?

Probably not, but I bet they all shoot minute of man out to 25 yards. They'll certainly outshoot 99% of the guys shooting them.

Doesn't american handgunner post accuracy reports with all of the guns that they review?

My Sig 239, and CZ75 have no problem keeping all shot inside a 1.5" hole at 7yrds. Thats me shooting offhand, after a 1/2 pot of coffee :D

I regularly shot 1'x1' steel plate @ 100 yards with this one before I retired it... but to answer your question, the only place I ever see any info like that is in the gun rags when they are doing an evaluation.

I'm pretty reliable and MY 9mms will shoot into 2.5" at 25 yards. My sandbag technique could be better, I got one in a Ransom rest a couple of times and it was shooting 1.5" with its best loads.

I think most of the current full size production pistols in ANY caliber from the major manufacturers are capable of excellent accuracy out to 25 yards. Jim Watson's results for repeatable accuracy of 2.5" for, say, 10 shots off a rest sound right. I've shot almost that well shooting offhand on several occasions with my SIG P228. That's not on-demand though :D.

I'm doing much better with my Glock though. They are amazingly accurate. This is all at 15 meters.

I usually don't just make five shots and then stop. But I saw this group and didn't want to risk to open it up:D

very helpful answers. just found Stephan A. Camp's hipower and handun site. extremely interesting, very welll written, and makes me want to read his bio.

Jim Watson, I would love to know what combo of guns and ammo will regularly shoot into 2.5" @ 25 yds.
I've shot a bunch, including CZ-85, Walther P1, Steyr M9, and the much ballyhooed H&K P7(PSP).
All were 3.5 - 4" average preformers for me.
One exception was the much maligned and rarely seen Kimel AP-9
I had suspected it was my fault but I seem to do fine with a Buck Mark: 1 - 1.5" groups.
gunblast.com does some thorough tests on a variety of firearms and in a nut shell if you want accuracy, go with a revolver or a .45

With my steel or alloy frame 9mm pistols, I can repeatedly hit a LaRue steel silhouette at 150 yards off a sandbag rest. The LaRue silhouettes are 11-inches wide and 21.5-inches tall. The only polymer framed pistol I tried was a Glock 17, and it's just not a long-range pistol for me. Guess I go along with the observation that most 9mm's are more accurate than the shooter ever is.

Ascot,

How about a Sig P210 and a refitted Colt?

I had a non-Colt sort of 1911 on Caspian that was that accurate with just the right ammo, but it was not as reliable as I wanted and it has since been reworked considerably. I have not tried it for max accuracy in the present configuration.
My Springfield did it one day with the load I settled on for IDPA and I have not asked it to try any more because it is not as tight a gun as the others.

This is the 16.5 yards, two hands hold, standing target with 115 gr FMJ.
The splitted rounds are certanly my fault.
If I do my part, the pistol and the bullet do much more better.
I am sure Zepetre and many others have far more better targets with 9 mm.

About any handgun on the market from any of the quality makers will shoot a whole lot better than most people can hold it at 25 yds.
My first issued S&W 39 using our dept reloads of 115 jacketed SWC would do 2" all day at 25 yds. Better than I could usually hold it.
When I was on the combat pistol team in the military we shock rack grade, stock M9s out to 50 meters. If you couldn't keep all your rds inside the 9 ring at 50 meters (no support) then you weren't going to place. For fun matches we'd shoot clay birds on cardboard cutouts at 50 meters standing unsupported. 4 birds each and first team or individual (depending on the match) to clean all 4 of their birds went on to the next level. If you had to reload you might as well quit as you were out of the running. And I wasn't one of the top shooters. I was shooting against guys who were President's 100 and Chief's 50.
For a defensive gun the usual standard is figured to be 4" at 25 yds. I've seen very few that couldn't do it. And those that would be a bit outside the 4" would probably do better given the right ammo.

Sorry, can't answer your question directly...
This isn't much beyond 7 yds at 25 feet with a 3" XD9, standing, Weaver. Accurate enough for me!

The 9mm is inherently as accurate as any pistol round. The Sig P-210 was already mentioned. The CZ 75 can be exceptionally accurate, box stock.

I can't remember the link, but gunsmiths for the US Army's pistol team accurized M-9s to shoot 1" 5 round rested groups at 50 Yards. Jarvis makes a barrel bushing system for Beretta and Taurus' that's very much like the Army modification.

Before propaganda convinces you that a 9mm can't be as accurate as a .45 ACP, consider the price of the pistol firing them. The P-210 is expensive, but around the same price as a Les Baer, or Ed Brown. The same accuracy can be achieved with a Beretta or Taurus. The Jarvis National Match barrel and bushing run $197. Fitting will cost you $150, or you can opt for the whole package. NM barrel and bushing, custom fit and a NM trigger for $405. Total investment, $1000 or less. Try to do that with a 1911.;)
