No Gun signs: What do you think? What do they think?

I don't think I've seen the right answer yet...

1) "Well, looks like I won't be spending any money here... Let's return this piece of crap, and then go find some management and bitch at 'em about it. Make sure to remind 'em that that Omaha mall had signs up."

Your attack has to be two-pronged... Withhold business -and- tell the manager you are not happy.

Whether the sign is "legal" or not doesn't matter. It's an insult. And it's dangerous.

Me- Oh well, I'll just make sure I'm not printing.

Non gunnie- No guns? Good, I'll be able to go about my buisiness safely.

Maniac- No guns? Good, I'll be able to go about my buisiness safely.

I vote with my money

I do not spend my money with business firms that deny my rights. I will not buy from Dick's Sporting Goods; I don't buy Levis and I won't eat in Huddle House restaurants.

If they don't trust me, I do not trust them.

Dunno about Charlotte but I'm welcome at the Dick's here in PA. Helpful and knowledgeable counter service too, but that may disappear when the kid goes back to his landscape business in the spring.

Good one mkeith!

Non gunnie- No guns? Good, I'll be able to go about my buisiness safely.
Maniac- No guns? Good, I'll be able to go about my buisiness safely.

"Do not enter with criminal intent!"
Priceless!!

I have to apologize. I returned to the site where I found the no guns signs:

http://www.jrwhipple.com/signs/

and was pleased to find out I was completely wrong assuming it was anti-gun. It's a company that does computer repair, and in fact seems rather pro-gun. See for yourself.

Another page shows a similar sign with a more appropriate caption:

Everyone In This House Is Armed. If You Enter With Criminal Intent, You Will Leave In A Body-Bag!
I should have known, given the first sign actually reads "Please do not enter with criminal intent". That should have given it away. Sorry to mislead.

Ironic, since I had Googled "no gun signs" to find the site.

I like the sign on the T-shirt put out by concealedcampus.org as a joke:

With a gun in a circle with the famous red diagonal slash:

"This is a gun free zone. If you were planning on shooting a bunch of innocent people and then yourself, we're sorry, but that is not allowed here."

CCW permit holder thinks: It's not the legal sign, and if they really wanted no guns carried here, they'd post the legal sign.

Law-abiding non-gun owner thinks: Good! We're all safe here!

Black-clad maniac thinks: The voices! Cobwebs! I am flan!

You, the law abiding CCW-er, think _______ "Where are the metal detectors and baggage xray machines to at least try to make this a gun sterile zone? (none found) Well, I guess they don't really mean it. Concealed is concealed. "
A law abiding non-gun-owner thinks _______ . "This coupon is only good till tuesday, but if I buy it on the internet I wouldn't have to be here and could be watching the game, since I am here I will go ahead and buy it. Next time I am going to stand up to that woman and just say no!......"
A black-clad suicidal maniac thinks _______ . "Target rich enviroment"

2) A law-abiding non gun owner is thinking that people who would want to carry a gun into a store (even legally) are unpolished, uneducated, hick rednecks; just the kind of people that they don't trust near them with something inherently dangerous like a handgun.

Non gun owners (who would approve of a sign like that) have a heightened sensitivity to the idea of guns escalating situations and to the idea of gun accidents.

As a legal CCW holder:

My first thought: This is an invitation to any criminal that they can go about their business with little or no resistance and therefore, a potentially dangerous place to do my shopping.

My second thought: My assumption is that they want no illegal guns on the premises.... Mine is perfectly legal and, also, none of their business.

1. You, the law abiding CCW-er, think: Ooh, somebody dropped a quarter!
2. A law abiding non-gun-owner thinks: Thank goodness for common sense!
3. A black-clad suicidal maniac thinks: SCORE!

Well, it depends on which side of the river I'm on.

Here in Ohio, any sign has legal force. However, many of the signs say "unless authorized by law", which makes it uncertain what they mean (when posted on private property). But it probably means that they don't want my business. A local pharmacy lost about $15,000 worth of our business.

Fortunately, we are close to Kentucky where the signs are virtually meaningless (wet noodle law), but then I've only seen ONE in Kentucky. That's where we do most of our shopping and dining.

I was in a mall today, (shudder:() there was no No weapons signs however while wandering through the place my pocket knife worked loose from my back pocket and fell out, it made a loud clack and partially opened when it hit the floor I didn't notice immediately until I heard a series of gasps from several apparently frightened people I turned around while my brain put two and two together I was terrified I thought for sure it was my pistol that fell when I turned around and saw it was just my knife I was relieved until I saw that there was no one within 20 feet of me and everyone was white as a sheet there was a long pause then a little old lady came out of nowhere picked up my knife closed it and handed it to me with a smile I thanked her turned around and got out of there, during my retreat I observed a white-uniformed Mall-guard flirting with a girl at the sunglasses counter not even 10 feet from where my ordeal just occurred of course he was completely oblivious, I've never had something like that happen before at my hometown mall no one would have batted an eye if it had been my pistol but I have never seen so many people so frightened of a simple $20 pocket knife it really went to show how many sheeple there are out there and its really sad that for all the "tough guys" that were there that it took a frail old lady to help me out of my predicament to say nothing of the security guy.

I like the signs I see at Cabela's, Gander Mountain and other outdoor stores they typically say something along the lines of: All firearms brought into the store must be in a case and checked at the service counter, this does not include firearms carried CCW

1. They're trying to placate hoplophobes, since anyone with a TX CHL knows it's not a sign compliant with TX law.
2. Oh, goody, none of those nasty things here - I'm just as safe as a Virginia Tech student!
3. Daddy's getting a new pair of shoes. (I LOVE these Victim Disarmament Zones!)

This being the high road, I can't really use the words that would adequately describe my thoughts.

In general I ignore signs like that and go on about my business.
