My new best buddy: S&W sku 108284. Stainless, full size, adj sights, beveled mag well, fl guide rod, ambi safeties, two Novak 8 round mags. Shoots way better than I do, and no stoppages/jams after more than 250 rounds of mixed bag ammo: JHP, ball, and eats 220 gr cast SWC like M&Ms. I'm pretty tickeled!:D

Nice looking gun! I wish they would use internal extractors on some of their models though.

Very nice. Thanks for posting a picture!

Safe shooting.

Congratulations~! Enjoy~!

I too, own a 5" stainless Smith & Wesson .45 caliber 1911 (#108282); and
I'm here to tell you, its up to the challenge. With its Novak three dot sights,
and 8 round factory magazines it runs "freely"; without even a bobble. I dare
say, it would run neck N' neck with my much more expensive Les Baer TRS. ;)

Almost bought one of them a few weeks ago. I'm having trouble with the warnings stamped into the frames though. I know that some firearms will fire with the mag removed but having it stamped down the side just rubs me the wrong way. Ofcourse I'm the type who immediately removes the multitude of warning stickers off of any new ATV I buy as soon as it gets home.
Glad to see you are enjoying your new friend though. Congrats on the purchase

DougDubya: I got this off'n gunbroker from a dealer that had bought some stock from a going-out-of business gun shop for $770 shipped to my FFL. My FFL guy is one of my best friends and didnt charge me any transfer fee.

I dont know if this is a good deal or not, but the MSRP is about $1150. I know that's high, but I think I got my moneys worth. I;m pleased anyhow!

Ala Dan: Glad to hear you're pleased with yours. and your compairson to the high end guns.

I may feel outgunned later, but not right now! Anyway, any problems will probably be operator caused!!

BTW, where are you in the South? I assume Tennessee? I'm in SW Alabama, in Monroeville.

That's good to hear, Doug...I sometimes get buyer's remorse after the deal. But not this time!!

Att; FM12 My Friend-

Actually, I'm located in the heart of "The Marvel City"; Bessemer, AL.
I just happen too be a long time University Of Tennessee faithful fan;
since age 7, and I will be 61 this coming Sunday (03-09-'08). My
references are as a former LEO, with a upscale PD here in the vicinity.
Now, I'm employed by these fine folks, as a sales professional:

Simmons Sporting Goods
2001-2nd Ave North
Bessemer, Alabama 35020
PX: (205) 425-4720 or 426-0490

Smith & Wesson had done their homework on their 1911 line; and
perfected the original issues concerning the external extractors. As
a matter of fact, I shot mine last Saturday (03-01-'08), along with
my daughter and several friends. This fine firearm performed really
well; better terminology would be marvelously, without even a
burp or malfunction of any type~! ;) I'm glad to see S&W in the
1911 business; as I can honestly promote their products over
our front line seller- Kimber.

If you get a chance, come on up from Monroeville; and check us
out at Simmons, where you will be treated with respect and
courtesy- what we built our business on well over 100 years ago. :D

Okay - complaining about the external extractor on an SW 1911 strikes me as incongruous. Smith and Wesson perfected that technology on 50 years of the S&W M39 and its huge family of descendants. Just because no one else producing 1911's had that track record on perfecting the external extractor (ahem... Kimber?) does NOT mean it's "doomed to fail."

If anything, I've not read any message board where there has been a single complaint of failure of SW extractors on their 1911 series.
