First of all, I haven't shot this gun in over 10 years, it's only seen the light of day from it's case probably 5 times in those 10 years, so no gripes about how dirty it is :neener:

ANYhoo, as I am catching up on my wonderful U.S.A.'s wonderful gun culture on this fantastic forum, I got to thinking about this nagging problem I had with my very first rifle. It is a Magtech model 122, bolt action .22 lr.

I remember clearly after maybe 1000 rounds or so the piece of metal that is supposed to eject the spent casing quit spitting out the casings for me. I have to flick out the spent casing manually every time. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this problem? I'm sure those that are familiar with this style rifle will know which part I am talking about. Pic is below.

To properly eject, the case has to be firmly held against the bolt face. That allows the ejector to knock the case out through the receiver port. I suspect the extractors are letting go of the case too soon.

Remove the bolt. Then remove the left and right extractors and clean them and any gunk in the bolt recesses that prevent free movement of the extractors. Reassemble the extractors into the bolt (the extractor with the sharp hook goes on the right).

I don't see the pic, but I'll guess that the problem could be that you lost the ejector. On that model, it is simply held in with a screw, which probably went away together. The rifle was made by CBC in Brazil, and parts are hard to find 'round here (imported c. 1992, I think). But, maybe with this info, you can find, or get ye to your local gunsmith for better advice as to whether it is worth the hassle to fix.

Holy wow, yeah, there was a ton of gunk on the extractors; all over the bolt really. I guess I was afraid of taking anything apart when I was 16. Thank you for the prompt replies guys, I'll let ya know if it works now, I suspect it will.

is it the extractor or ejector?

sometimes fouling can get into the extractor groove and cause it to bind and break, especially is it is made of metal that is either too soft (wears quickly) or is too hard (snaps off, cracks or breaks)
