Just got my hands on my newest project. My second Sistema (aka Argentine Contract 1911A1) came to me as a 'parts' gun that had a nice bulged barrel and was missing many of the original parts. It did have however a sn matched slide/frame/barrel/magazine and it was only 300 digits earlier than the other one I purchased a year ago. In theory these may have been in the factory at the same time, heck they may even have rode the same crates out the door back in 1960!

I've already replaced many parts with as GI as I can, HS contract barrel, GI Rear Sight, an older flat MSH with lanyard loop, grip screws/bushings, and although they're ugly a nice pair of original Argentine marked grips from a Sistema. Action locks up nice and tight, only had to do a minor amount of dressing and polishing. Going to the range this weekend to give her the 500 round ball ammo starter diet.

Now the fun part. To refinish, or no? This one is staying in the GI configuration, my other one has gotten a full work over and hardly looks like a Sistema any longer :D

I had two of these, both in about the same shape. I cold-blued one, updated it with drop-in beavertail, trigger, grips etc. Looks nice. The other one I removed all the rust with evaporust, left it in the white and waxed it. that also turned out nice.
As much as I appreciate "patina", this was just plain ole rust, and it had to go.

Looks like mine from Lipsey's. It makes me sick when I think about how much money I have in to, and it's still not refinished. Would have been cheaper for me to just buy an STI Spartan. Probably would have been different if I had done the work myself.
