Mount a Shotgun under an AR

getting a rem 870 with a tapped reciever for scope mounts could be attached by putting a picitinny rail on the shotgun, and modifying a claw type scope mount to attach it to the quad rail on the m4, or other rifle.
not shure if that scope mount would hold up though

this goes without saying, but a 870 short enough to fit under the barrel will be classified as a short barreled weapon anyway

This gets filed under the "*** is this useless contraption?! I gotta have one when I hit the Lottery!" category.:neener:

:D

I coulda sworn that that new straight-pull bolt-action shotgun they're producing for the military could be purchased to do the same thing with far less weight?

I always thought that was a great name for a shotgun - masterkey. Primarily a breaching tool, yeah? Plus you could fire those 12ga grenades they had on future weapons (probably cost thousands of dollars apiece). Spare mag or two of HE or frag could come in handy. Also offers close proximity defense when changing mags.

Is this thing available for "us mere civilians?" And, I could've sworn that a year or two there was a similar discussion, and I think I remember that someone proposed mounting an 18" or 20" shotty under an AR, and that since it was attached, the OAL was over 26", and thus no tax (though it would be blisteringly heavy, I'm sure). Any truth to this?

I mean, what kind of civilian needs a modular Masterkey? Where's the market?

I need one. I think it would be a great hog and coyote eradicator. Got a distance shot, use the rifle, he's charging you, he get's a brain housing group full of buckshot.

I'd also take it turkey hunting just once. Just to say I did...

:banghead:
We used them in Afghanistan, the LSS, back in 2003-04. While the ideal has someeeee merit, to date the tech approuch needed has not been taken.

Sarah Brady does a happy dance every time a gun owner says that, because she knows that you don't need an AR-15 or Scoped sniper style gun either. You don't really need a gun at all, look at the folks in England and Australia--they didn't fall over dead when all their guns were confiscated...Jeez, I hope you just forgot to add the "/sarcasm off" part and you don't really think that way.

What caliber do you use to kill freedom?

I thought someone would misunderstand me. I don't see a profitable demand for the product (thus why they're $2,000). It was a business question, not a political one.
They are expensive, and of dubious value, and thus

They do make a mounting bracket you can buy that allows you to attach a Remington 870 to your AR.

They used to be the rage a few years ago, but a quick search doesn't reveal their easy availability now.

That sounds a lot more reasonable.

Like an elaborate drilling, eh?

When I was active duty Army they were experimenting with a magazine fed shotgun attachment for our M-4's...most guys smashed them on purpose so the armorer would take them off their rifles! They constantly needed cleaning and were useless in general. Much rather have the MP issued shotgun or the little pistol grip door opener we had.

If I want to put more lead in the air in a wide pattern I just full the trigger more!

Jonathan Arthur Ciener used to make a non-NFA 870 that would attach to the bayonet lug on a standard length M16A1/M16A2/AR-15. He also made the shorter NFA version for use on the M4 length barrel.

For military use, would you rather have this thing taking up space under the rifle or a 40mm grenade launcher? I know which one I personally would prefer. :D Of course, it depends on the job, I guess. But current grenades are better and probably less expensive than anything I've seen on "Future Weapons" in 12 gauge.

I can see one application, though, where a crossbolt safety would be better than a tang safety.

3 1/2 lbs hanging on the end of my M-4 on all day patrols and CQB no thanks. I will take an M-203 or nothing.

I swear Ive seen an insert for the 37 or 40 mm flare/ grenade launchers that allows you to shoot a 2 3/4" 12 ga. shell through it, I can't seem to find it right now though. Anyone else seen them?

I take it this was mainly invented for the use of breaching rounds?

Anvil Arms will be making a kit for this soon. Sage Int. gave me a quote of $199 for their "door knocker" mount recently.

If you have the AR and the SBS, why not have a mount to put them together. Admit it, they do look pretty neat.

This has been brought up at least 5 times in the last 2 months here. And then some if your on other gun boards. Must be interesting enough to keep talking about it 20 years after the fact....
