So, what what did everyone think? What guns did you "discover"? What amazed/flabbergasted you? What guns did you finally get to handle? What will you buy next based on your survey? What's going to be the next big thing?

I finally got to get my paws on the Masada and have to admit that Magpul seems to have reinvented the wheel and broken away from the long AR15 plateau. Yes, even an old cynic like El Tejon has to admit that I was very impressed by handling, but have not yet shot it.

A rep from Magpul told me two things that reassured me about this weapon: 1. it was purchased by Bushmaster to produce, not sit on a shelf and act as a fence, 2. Production runs should begin late fall and units shipped 4th quarter of '08, retail of 1.5K.

If this gun runs, it could be a very big deal.

I was very impressed with Smith and Wesson. Classic solid designs coupled with some great innovation. I was impressed with the M&P .45, very solid, durable weapon. Not a big fan of that type of trigger but I grew up with a 1911. With training and practice it should be manageable.

The rep spent about 10 minutes with me going over the Thunder Ranch Special revolver. Again, I was impressed and plan on picking a couple up this year after my A list is filled.

A swung by Nighthawk and just stood and drooled. Microtech's AUG copy was not next door to Nighthawk. Looks good and they answered my questions without pause. A Microtech is on my B list.

I handled my first STIs and was impressed. Decent weapons for the money. Check out the Spartan, a 1911 for 6 bills and you just have to remove the goofy sights and the guide rod. Heck of a weapon for the denek.

I swung by Heckler und Koch, but did not touch anything. I only stayed long enough to enter a raffle (on the entry slip I wrote "because you suck and we hate you" and dropped it in).:D

Who is not making AR15s? Charles Daley, ParaOrdance, Century, inter alia. My 70 year old mother is making ARs in her basement now.

I talked to the guys at DPMS about them bringing back the AP4 (for my nephews). They advised no dice as they are 18K back ordered on complete rifles and 14K behind on lower receivers. (yes, I remember the numbers correctly). DPMS reps told me that they are making 1K rifles a week with increased production runs to come. Thank you, Bill Clinton, for arming us like no other politician has!

I talked to Sig Sauer about the possibility of bringing out their 556 in Swiss furniture as the SIG Euro or SIG International or whatever (there was another exhibitor that was making Swiss furniture). The reps told me to e-mail SIG SAUER and request this. So, I'm spreading the word.

Great show, I had a great time both at the law seminar, at the Expo Hall and, especially, after hours.:D

Boy that is the truth. I secound the media & government tells us we can't have something we want it more.

I would love to see the numbers of owners ship or AK's & AR's before & after the so called AWB.

Which is why I believe there won't ever be another one. It would be much easier to do them NFA style and continue to go after ammo.

Just price it out of reach and, voila, bye bye pesky gun culture.

Same here. Didn't notice it in SHOT '07 but closer examination of the Range Master really impressed me on how silky smooth the slide action was. Went over to Kimber's area and it felt like the slide of the gun I was examining was traveling over gravel.

Finally got to look at an XDM, seemed OK.

Bought some Tac Innovations 10/22 mags. (3 plastic, one aluminum)

It is rather funny that wide sweeping and ineffective gun legislation has lead to HUGE purchasing of "assault" goods.

To give some idea of scale, in 2005 DPMS produced 22k rifles (rifles meaning receivers and complete guns), in 2006 47.5k. I haven't found data for 2007 but if they're 32k units behind now they must be selling at an amazing rate.

Did not attend, but some of the speakers were good. Greg Stube was (and is) quite impressive.

Videos are in the archives section of nra.org.

I went Saturday, and it was worse than a chunky kid in a confections store. Some things that stuck in my mind:
Masada release in Jan of 09, with a MSRP of $1800-2000. This per Israel, the Bushmaster rep. Count it off my list.
SCAR was neat, but honestly did not really excite me much. The new FS2000 with the 1.6X optic was pretty neat. It fits me so well. DPMS has some really neat stuff, and they have come a long way it seems.
Talked to Mr. Barret and thanked him for his stance on not selling to Ca. Very nice guy. Gunny was also very approachable and very down to earth. A Mans Man. JR from LoneWolf was very nice, and tried to talk my my wife into a pink G29 to match my black G20. I got about a metric ton of flyers to read while I roost on the white throne. I still hate crowds. I also went to the HK booth and got a CIVILIAN(and we hate you) packet. I entered my name to win a pistol from them, but I guess I am out of luck. I could overlook their hatred if they gave me a new pistol. Overall, I was overwhelmed by the amount of stuff to look at. I know I missed much, but I had a good time.

FWIW, I did not see a single attempted crime occur while all those vicious "assault" rifles were freely handled by the populace. Surely mixing all those guns and people together was a disaster waiting to happen. Where were the Bradyophiles?
I CC'd with no issues.

Spent Friday and Saturday morning. Best part of the show is meeting and talking to people from all walks of life that were interested in guns. Learned a great deal.

Really liked the little Leupold Prismatic, think it will be ideal on my Remington 7615. (not an AR fan)

Looks like I'm going to spring for an M1A this year.

Only disappointment for me was at Fobus. I talked to their rep about left handed holsters. The guy was a jerk. They are off my buy list now.

I also wanted to add that I was really impressed with the Charles Daly AR's.
Fit and finish was excellent. I did not break one down to check for proper staking and all that, but the exterior was very well done. Added to my get list for the year.
