And toy cars should be forbidden, too. Cars are dangerous tools.

And toy airplanes. Don't forget them.

And what about those plastic hammers in the PlaySkool sets?

It actually helps our side when celebrities come out pro-gun. We may not give a rip about their opinions, but a lot of sheeple do and every little bit of influence helps.

I won't let my future kids play with toy guns either. A gun is a dangerous tool, not a toy. Does that make me anti-gun?

No, it shows a sense of responsibilty as a parent. In fact, I highly encourage you to let your local law enforcement know when you do see children playing with toy guns. I'd be more than happy to charge these irresponsible parents with endangering the welfare of a minor and see to it that Child Protective Services removes the child from the home.

While I understand the point of not allowing kids to play with toy guns, I vehemently oppose calling the police or CPS on them (unless you live in Texas where they are turning this into an artform). So far, toy guns are still legal and there probably aren't too many places where they would take this sort of complaint seriously (I hope ...).
As a kid I had a number of Mattel and other toy guns. As an adult I now have a number of real guns and rifles. I have never used any of these guns in an unsafe or illegal manner. The only one time I ever had a gun go off when I did not expect it to was at the range and the bullet went the same place all my other expended rounds went; into the berm.
So, as a kid I played with toy guns ... as an adult I am neither a criminal or a careless gun owner.
Somehow ... it CAN be done.
And there's no mystery about how ....
My father made very d@rned sure that I knew the difference ... and I was educated on how real guns worked, and how to safely handle them.
That's how.

How in the he11 did we get from Angelina Jolie owning a gun to a debate on toy guns?

If she owns a gun, good for her. One more on our side who is willing to say so out loud.

I consider that an EXTREAMLY BAD idea.

CPS is worse than the ATF.

Plus when I was a kid I played with toy guns, and I play video games too.

Edit: I just went OT in my own Thread.

Children grew up playing with toy guns in the 50s and they didn't turn out so bad(probably have a lot more integrity than more recent generations). I guess if you're all for pussifying America's young men, then don't let my opinion get in the way. No wonder males are basically just a female appendage these days. Cripes.

By the way I was born in the 80s. I played with toy guns constantly growing up. I have no criminal record and have never been involved in a violent crime my 26 years on this planet. Say it aint so!

"Responsibility"-Spell check is an amazing tool.

WOW

Some people are feeding the sharks awful early for a monday morning...

I'm agreed with the earlier sentiment, they say they have guns, training and are unafraid to use them. FWIW: She was married to Billy Bob Thornton (it was his blood in the vial) and he's a southern man who loves his guns. So I don't doubt that Angelina has them and who are we to doubt her intent to use them for HD. Unfortunately she bought HK's but...

As to the parental no toy guns, unless a parent is putting their child into a dangerous situation who are we to judge? After all: HOW OLD ARE THEIR KIDS? I won't let my 2 year old play with toy guns but my 5 year old goes to the range and shoots her Pink Cricket with me. It's and age thing folks, DOWN BOYS!

.cheese - if you prefer to take my comment about hindering the First Amendment rights of ANY individual personally, there must be something niggling in your heart with guilt.

After all, you're not someone like the Clear Radio Network which pulled airplay of performers who their corporate bosses didn't like, nor did you send death threats to anyone for speaking their opinion.

You made an onerous and distasteful statement that no one in the entertainment field should speak their mind, which to me is a baleful point of view, but as you're just someone typing on an internet forum, it's merely electronic mental onanism. Far from criminal, but still unwelcome since she voiced an opinion that IS SOLIDLY ON THE SIDE OF 2ND AMENDMENT SUPPORTERS.

There are no "sheeple". Any honest citizen who carries out his duties for the welfare of the country should never be viewed in a negative light.

What you call "sheeple" the rest of us call patriots.

Um, the problem is that lots of registered voters and non-voters are not "honest citizen who carr[y] out [their] duties for the welfare of the country". If they did, they wouldn't be "sheeple". Unfortunately, there are LOTS of folks like this.

I was never allowed to have toy guns. I started shooting when I was seven. I had an AR-15 before I ever had a cap or squirt gun.

Saying "don't point guns at people" and then handing a kid a toy gun is sending a real mixed message.

I'm pretty sure MM is joking... right? right?

Because if you come to my house to try to take my kids just cause they're playing with toy guns... you and I are going to have some fighting words, sir.

Can we not all go back to contemplating this quote?-
"I was just happy that I could pull off a lot of those stunts. I had to train for over two months before filming, and then all the way through we were training. But I learned all these different skills. They put up a boxing bag and a bunch of power bars in my living room for like eight months.

There was also bungee ballet, diving, and weapons training and kick boxing, and everything from yoga to soccer and rowing. And I learned how to sword fight. But when I was trying to shoot, there were shells going down my shirt. So sometimes I would be thinking, this is not for me." - A.J. interview

I'd have to wonder what combat skills she has...but wouldn't discount it outright. Some celebs have taken personal security seriously. While Angelina and Brad may or may not be the high-speed/low-drag operators in real life that they portray on the screen...Steven Segal could well prove to be the bite that most bad guys couldn't chew...with guns or hand-to-hand.

Screw Segal, you forgot Chuck Norris!

Sly Stallone is another hypocrite. Rabidly anti-gun, but he sure has his California CCW permit. Look at Mr. Gun Harrison Ford himself. Anti-gun, but you can't tell me that he lives on a huge ranch in Wyoming and doesn't own guns.

Wrong. What I take personally is being called a criminal.... and other than the cheeseburger I had for lunch, I have no guilt.

Wrong again. I never said she shouldn't be able to voice her point of view. I simply was pointing out that it seemed ridiculous to me for us to be so focused and concerned with that point of view.

Even if she agrees with us, it doesn't matter. I can assure you that I have no plans to use the following line when dealing with an anti, "Well, Angelina Jolie is pro 2A! See, you should be too!"

Care to make any other accusations?

Untrue.
What he said was:

who cares if she's pro-gun? What makes her so special? She's just a person who pretends to be other people for entertainment. How are her opinions on political subjects worth more than any other Joe Average? Being a celebrity doesn't give her any more of a voice than anybody else IMO.

He's saying something you're obviously not hearing, and you're hearing something he never said.

I think we underestimate the intelligence of children. Any kid with a modicum of firearms familiarity can tell the difference between a toy and the real thing.

celebs- double standards

A big celeb like Angie G can have her HKs and knives and talk openly about them. If she has a real SD incident, I doubt any lawyers or LEOs would harp on her or treat her like dirt like they have done to other US citizens who are not major celebs but used a firearm to protect themselves and/or their family,.
US law enforcement and the US media treat big celebs differently. The LAPD started "Homicide Special" because of the high profile criminal investigations in LA. These veteran LAPD detectives treat celebs and rich people in a much different way then other LA residents who deal with the same violent crimes.

Uh, Josh... Apparently you haven't seen some of the airsoft "toy" guns that are VERY realistic looking. So realistic to the point that grown ups actually use them for force on force training. I have a KWA airsoft G26 with a metal slide and barrel and it's almost EXACTLY like my "real" G26. Same weight as fully loaded and dimensionally exact. Works with all G26 holsters and the trigger pull is pretty darned close as well. Even inserting the magazine and racking the slide sound pretty realistic...functional slide lock and the slide is removed the same way, too. The only things that make it different from being a true copy is: 1) orange muzzle tip which can easily be fixed, 2) no Glock markings of any kind due to copyright infringement (the Chinese ones sold outside the US have correct markings), and 3) it has the "happy fun switch" on the left rear of the slide for G18-like full auto. Not my video clip below, but I have the exact same airsoft G26.
