...yet I am concerned about ammo prices. Everyone is going out and buying a scooter or a hybrid, and then there's me--I'm buying reloading equipment.

Does this make me a gun nut?

I have increased my hold-ups of convenience store/gas stations to three per month in order to pay for fuel AND ammo. Since I switched my primary crime weapon to a Thompson 1927 A1 carbine I have saved money by loading mil spec surplus ammo.

OK. it is a bad joke. All commodities are going to inflate so get used to it. Loading your own makes sense to me.

I bought a Winchester 1000X Air Rifle. The pellets go out at 1000+ FPS and can be fired safely within one's backyard (at an appropriate backstop, such as a telephone book against a hill of dirt)

If I were really cheap I'd fashion a collector and melt the deformed fired pellets down to cast into ingots.

Remember reading something in the Economist about the real (see adjusted for inflation) average income of the American household dropping about $1000 dollars from 2000 to 2008....

But same here, I haven't started reloading, but if I want to shoot and still have something in the bank, a reloading press is in the future for myself as well.

Look: here is the deal: According to the News, 75% of gas prices in England are taxes. We need to throw out the legislators (usually so-called "Democrats") who support higher taxes. If you want to give your money away to a wasteful beaurocracy, then have at it. However, if you want to have responsible government, then rise up, white man! (I say "white man", because we have the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, etc., and we have no one to represent regulare white guys trying to make a living.) If you don't like this, "tough", as Savage would say... I am tired of the bull-sh#t about how black and other groups can organize themselves according to race, yet if white people do this, they are considered racists. Wake up, people! Think for yourselves. The government-media complex won't tell you the truth.

First of all, this is not just a "white man's" problem. Those statements should not have even been made. There are people of all races from different backgrounds trying to make an honest living. How about EVERYONE in the country wakes up and tries to solve the problems as a whole. There's a thought. The racism has no place and especially not here. Oh, and one more thing. Everyone on this board is not white as everyone on this board is not male so you would be wise to be cautious about what you are saying. This site is trying to bring gun owners together, not split them up. Gun owners have enough problems as it is.

+1 on the race things. This forum isn't about those things.

Maybe we should let the mob run the country. They will take their 10 % and everything would run like clockwork ;)

I went to a gun show yesterday. Paid for entry and bought some jerky. I looked at guns but just couldn't make a deal happen.

What's this have to do with this thread? About as much as this thread has to do with THR.

Gas prices are hurting us all. I drive 50 miles 1 way to shoot high power matches at one range and 55 miles 1 way to shoot at a different range.

Ammo's going thru the roof. Pretty soon, I might have to curtail my shooting time even more.

I'd face these problems whether I was White, Black, Hispanic, Asian, Middle Eastern, or Eskimo.

So take your racist crap and get your troll a$$ the f*** out of here!

I dont know who said this originally, but..."If we don't all hang together, we shall surely hang seperately".

Started reloading 35 years ago when stuff was inexpensive. Can't begin to count the number of rounds I have sent downrange that I would not otherwise been able to. Reloading these days makes absolute sense and anyone who shoots and does not reload better get going fast. As to oil/gas prices and the future, DRILL is the first thing we need to beat into the heads of our so called leaders. Drill ANWR, drill offshore, drill on the south lawn of the White House if you need to. COAL and COAL GASIFICATION is another good one, OIL SHALE is yet another and finally NUCLEAR power plants. My gosh it all seems so easy and simple yet our nation seems to be stuck behind Al Gore and global warming. The left is not going to be happy until we are relegated to third world status as a socialist state. Sorry, I'm getting wound up, reload, damn right reload.

Actually, most of what Borntwice said was NOT racist, but an accurate
observation. (QUOTE) "....because we have the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, etc., and we have no one to represent regular white guys trying to make a living...... how black and other groups can organize themselves according to race, yet if white people do this, they are considered racists......."
Nothing in that statement was untrue, and the fact that so many were quick to jump on him claimiing "racism" is further evedence of the level of brainwashing many have succumbed to.
On the other hand, it was pretty much an over-the-top rant that had no place in this thread, or even on this forum. That is all :D

We need more incentives to break the link to Mid-east oil.

We need more drilling at home.

We need more 'alternative' fuels

We need LESS ethanol!!! as in STOP DOING IT, IT IS A WASTE!

Actually, the price of ammo, 5.56/.223 at least, was climbing rapidly (and dramatically) before gas started to go up much. All sorts of reasons/excuses attributed to the war. - component shortage - manufacturing bandwidth dedicated to supplying the armed forces - etc, etc.

What AKCOP said - been reloading for years. Though in the past, while its saved me a lot per round, the savings was (willingly) given up to shooting a lot more. I also got ammo tailored to my guns and my needs.

Ammo prices likely to rise and keep on rising...

Guys, we're gonna have to get used to the idea of inflation, and at an increasing pace.

All of the following are inflationary...

1. War has increased demand for the commodities (obvious)
2. Globalization has increased demand (a HUGE new middle class evolving)
3. Globalization has weakened the dollar (Chindia not likely to go away)
4. The Fed is lowering interest rates
5. The Government is subsidizing ethanol production
6. The national debt will someday need to be paid off (probably through printing cash)

Furthermore, the Consumer Price Index has changed its formula since 1999. Calculation under the old formulas would show a MUCH higher rate than what we are being sold now. One of many reports on this here.

I guess we better stock up!

Until people start cutting back, it will not get better seems like there are more cars on the road everyday. I am lucky enough to be able to shoot at home so I do not have the expence of going to a range, and I buy ammo in bulk and that helps some but not as much as it use to

Want ammo prices to go down place tarriffs on exports of metals and fuel. American manufactured stock is flying out the door. Put a stop to that and our situation will improve.
