I would have to pick my Ruger Vaquaro in .357 with a 5 1/2 barrel. Great for plinking with light target loads, and if needed it can be loaded with some hefty loads a lot of other revolvers could not handle. LM

Don't laugh too loud, now.
My Norinco Tokarev Model 213. It originally came as a 9mm Luger. I have a 7.62x25 barrel for it, and another 9x19 barrel reamed out to 9x23 Winchester. I get to fire the cheap 7.62x25 military surplus for practice, the 9mm Luger if the supply of 7.62x25 dries up, and the 9x23 Winchester for SD.
The 9x23 Winchester is the ballistic duplicate of the .357 Magnum, but with less muzzle flash, less recoil, faster reloading, and 8+1 capacity, in a much more easily concealed package.
The Tokarev is a simplified John Browning design, and is reliable as all get out. The Commies made millions of them. I have never had one fail to go bang when I pulled the trigger on a round. It is quite accurate, also.

My PF-9. Since it's my carry pistol, it is the one I shoot the most. As long as I don't overdo it in one session, it's a lot of fun and a pleasant challenge.

CZ-75D PCR. Great for range and carry, plus it takes the .22 Kadet Kit conversion.

4" Stainless GP100

4" Stainless GP100. Durable, reliable, accurate, flexible with ammo. With the hogue gips, I would say that they are also pretty darn nice to look at. If I were limited to one gun, this would be it. No question.

For me there can be only one and it's a .44 mag, 4".

Load it up or down and there's nothing it can't do.

SD with specials, quick follow-up, hunt with mags.

Now, you really want to get into it, get a 3" .44 and you can pack it even easier.

I had this one made for me in a horse trade for my 2.5" 686. It started out as an 8 3/8" 629-2 and now it's my constant companion in the field. I had trijicon sights installed for evening campground duty.

My all around gun is a Blackhawk in .41 Magnum with a 4-5/8" barrel.

It will work just fine for defense, and I'd feel good about hunting anything from rabbits to elk with appropriate loads.

Browning HiPower, 9mm. It is classy, it is accurate, it is a piece of art. The only thing it isn't, is "concealable". Sigh.

My favorite all-around handgun is actually my Bersa .380. While it's always been a great gun for some reason it's always the one that I reach for.

Sure the XD is great on the range and stays beside the bed with the rail light on it, but it's a 5" and a PITA to carry.

The Taurus, while completely inaccurate and not worthy of carrying would be too heavy to carry with light clothes anyways.

The Rossi .357 revolver, while small and light is great to carry, it's not a whole lot of fun at the range and because I haven't gotten speed-loaders for it yet, just isn't a great carry piece at the moment.

The Bersa is a ton of fun at the range. Everyone in the family can shoot it. It's great for new shooters with it's simplicity and decocker. It's easy to carry. Fit's just about anywhere. It's accurate, easy to reload, easy to manipulate.

If I was forced to get rid of all my weapons but one, it'd be the one I keep.

To me, "All around" means it has to be able to at least be capable of doing everything I ask in a handgun:

1) concealed carry comfortably with a lethal load
2) plink for fun with a cheap ammo
3) defend against scary game that may threaten me or my horses where we travel

The only gun I own that can do all that easily is a 2.5" K frame S&W .357. Ergonomic, friendly sights (rr/wo adjustable), all steel, and handles everything from 2.7gr of unique under a 148gr WC for fun, to a 180gr bear load from Double Tap. These are limits I can live within.

If I reduce the "comfortably" portion of requirement #1, a 4" 686 or a 3.5" 27 becomes more likely.

Like Snapping Twig, I also have a 3" .44 magnum and those are very versatile, too, just not very concealable. If I take concealed and "cheap ammo" out, then it's the 629 3".

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions...
