I've got a question.

I have a buddy that owns a Cessna. Sometimes I go out to the airport and we fly around a little bit just for fun.

Now, before we go any farther, let me clarify something...

I'm not talking about the big Intercontinental Airport with the jet liners coming and going.

I'm not talking about a terminal with X-ray machines...

I'm talking about a little patch of asphalt and a couple of hangars with a wind sock.

It looks like this:

Here's my question- The last time I was there I walked around for an hour messing around with the plane and whatnot before I realized that I had my carry piece in my pants.

Yes, I know that airports and hand guns don't mix, but does this private hangar out on the end of a tiny little runway count as an airport?

What do you guys think? It's not a secured area at all. There's not even a fence or gate. Heck, there's not even a sign or anything.

This place is pretty much out in the country.

Should I lock my piece in the truck or what?

So long as there isn't a passenger terminal, I wouldn't worry about it.

I'm an aircraft owner and pilot, and I carry all the time at my airport. I rarely land at the bigger airports (Class B, C or D) because I never know what kind of security BS I'll run into.

Give me the small, non-towered (called "uncontrolled airfields" in our vernacular) country airports anyday.

Well, I worked at the commercial airports all over the US for 30 plus years. I flew with friends from the private aviation side of several. We never worried about weapons on the private side, unless you had to see the airport police for something, or go to the major airport operators (private carriers hangers and offices.)

There are no FAA or TSA regulations concerning guns and private aircraft.

As long as your airport has no regs against it, you're fine. Most general aviation airports are open to the public, and are not prohibited areas.

Is that DW Hooks airport?

It's Williams. North of Houston in a little town called Porter.

I suspected it was legal to CC there, but wasn't sure of exactly how the laws were worded.

Thanks for the info.
