I finally got a Colt 1860. Here's the story...

My wife and I were on an anniversary vacation in San Diego this past week. As I usually do, the trip involved some stops at local gun shops. Not knowing what to expect in California, I was amazed that I had to present ID just to get a gun out of a display case!

Anyway, in the case of a San Diego pawn shop was this EMF Colt 1860 replica. It's used, but unfired. I told my wife (who was waiting patiently in the car) that it had to come home to Texas - just to rescue it from California!

Anyway, here it is...

Well, looks are important to some people. I don't know how much better "...that much better..." is, so it's kind of hard to answer your question.

What's your own personal standard metric: looks, function, reliability, accuracy, ease of maintenance, price, or carbon footprint?

I'm a Uberti fan, but in fact I own more Piettas than Ubertis. I always disassemble every gun I buy, new or used, and stone the action parts. With new guns I usually shoot 50-100 rounds before I do that, but they all get the treatement. Afterwards, the only difference beteween my Piettas and my Ubertis is finish, and the Ubertis seem to always win on that basis.

I'd have to say Ubertis are better. A lot better, or how much better, or worth $XX more I can't say, because that's your standard, and I don't know what that is.

:)Hey Mykeal:
Thanks for the post. Being familiar with both these guns inside and out. I trust your eye for quality in craftsmanship, and that's the answer I was seeking. Of all the Pietta's I've looked at on the NET this EMF outshines them all. So if their internal qualities are good enough for you, they'll be plenty good enough for me. Thanks again.

Awesome Sage. Glad to see another shootin' iron has been rescued.

Maybe we need to start a rescue/adaption program to save the guns in Kali.

I have an EMF Hartford sheriffs shorty 1860 with integral loading lever on layaway..it does look nice but I havn't had my hands on it yet. Normally I am a Uberti man but this one looked a cut above the typical Pietta.
Yours is a beauty!

I've been meaning to get an 1860 for a while now, and the fact that y'all are intentionally trying to deplete the available supply out here in the land of the fruits and nuts has forced me to order one from here :neener:http://www.blockaderunner.com/Catalog/catpg4.htm. $230 shipped!
Also - there's no law here requiring an ID before handling a gun in a store. Might be a San Diego law though.

Hey Texas Colt: Took these pics of my EMF between the rain showers awhile ago. Hope you don't mind me copying your background set-up. I laid some coats of Tru-Oil on my grips in case you're wondering about their looks.

Disassembled it and found a little metal grit and grease between the frame and trigger guard, and a small no-see-um burr on the barrel top at the cylinder. Other than that the insides work like a clock. These are really nice guns.:)

Very nice! The grips look great.

I haven't taken mine apart yet, but I plan to. It locks up nice and tight, but a little light stoning of some surfaces will smooth things up a bit.

The big brown truck o' happiness just delivered mine from Blockade Runners 1/2 hour ago, and not only does it look great (I'll post pics later), the box has a Taylor's tag on it!! Woohoo!
Thanks y'all for making me buy this.

I'm already hooked.
This 1860 will be keeping company with a pair of Remmies, an 1851 London Navy, a 5 1/2" ROA and a CVA Hawken that I picked up at a yard sale for $50..

Hey; Texas Colt: :)

Sure am liking this EMF. I've got an old Pietta Brass Frame .44, I believe it came from BASS PRO. Don't know if they tweak them up like EMF does, but the innards on both look real good. The EMF Back Spring makes cocking the hammer a lot easier.

In this PIC I'm breaking in this new EMF along side my old Pietta. Trying out some new Powder (APP). Someone said it doesn't smoke much??????? :D:D

Hey guys just joined the ranks the other day with a colt 1862 pocket navy. Took the pocket out for a few shots at the bayou, had a lot of fun and got hooked for life. Planing on getting a Colt 1860 army for Christmas this year, all ready asked the wife. Keeping my fingers crossed.:D

by the way love the pics :)

Welcome; black_powder_Rob :) :

Glad to have you on-line. These Army 1860's are my favorite. This EMF was priced right for me. I looked at a UBERTI the other day. The only difference I noticed was that it didn't have the '(extra) Stock Screws 'in the Frame :) . I like that, but not for another 100 bucks.
