I just moved to this area recently and am not having a whole lot of luck finding any information on gun shops in the area. Can anyone recommend a good place or places ?

Thanks,
SS

There's a Cabela's and Bass Pro Shop down in Grapevine. Also, you might check out Birdgeport Guns and Ammo. They're at 1691 W. Hwy 380 just west of Decatur. They're open Monday-Saturday.

There's the Cheaper Than Dirt main store north of Fort Worth on the 820 loop and Elk Castle Shooting Sports, 8240 West Fwy, Fort Worth.

I'm a recent transplant to DFW as well.

A useful local board I've found is http://www.texaschlforum.com/

Sorry, I don't know any shops in Denton. Some ranges in your neck of the woods are:

Magnum Sports Center
4934 Duck Creek Rd
Sanger, TX 76266
940-458-7000

North Texas Shooters Assocation
http://www.shootntsa.com

Quail Creek Public Shooting Range
http://www.quailcreekrange.com/

Denton County Sports Association
409 Copper Canyon Road
Argyle, TX 76226

Note: I have never visited any of these ranges.

We had a really great gun store in Denton that closed about 5 years ago when the owners retired. That said, there is a small one-man shop called Delmark in Denton. They keep very few guns in stock, but can order just about anything you need. I've bought several guns from them, and most of the time they arrive the next day.

Their website is: http://www.delmarkffl.com/

The gunshop on the square in Denton closed about a year or 2 ago. Now a "coffee bar".

Bullet Trap in Plano, Cheaper Than Dirt in Ft Worth, SPS in Carrollton, about all I can think of. Two ranges shut down in McKinney (Collin County Range) and Little Elm (Back Woods). Closest range to me is Quail Creek or Garland Public Range. Pickins are gettin slim here in N Texas. I buy 90% from Bullet Trap or CTD. Supplies fro MidwayUSA or Brownell's.

I went through the same thing when I moved to the area. Then I found out that one of my neighbors is an FFL.

Larrys Gun Repair
479-0309

Larry closed his shop a few years ago but still does transfers.

I usually buy ammo at the shows or from Cabela's and do all of my purchases / sales private FTF.

theres a small shop in lewisville called.

"all about guns"

Had quite a few ar-15 accesseries. I believe he's a wilson combat dealer as well.

Last time I heard he was going to start carrying reloading supplies since gander mt. shutdown

Sporting Arms in Lewisville has some stock, but are really best at orders and transfers. There are a bunch of shops in the Metroplex, if you are willing to drive down 35E a bit.

Thanks for the replies folks, I moved up to the Denton area from the Dallas area. I am familiar with the places you guys mentioned in the north Dallas and surrounding cities. I just was curious about the guys that are local to Denton which appears to be pretty darn slim. With gas prices being as ridiculous as they are I was hoping to find something a little closer.

I actually bought a gun from T and Sons a long time ago. The owner seemed like a good guy to deal with. Its a shame that he shut down.

Thanks again for all the replies. I will just keep my gun shopping list handy when I come into town (Dallas area).

Where do you shoot now?

I moved to the north part of frisco recently. I had shot at bacwoods a few years ago and was sad to find out it had closed. Where do you go shoot if backwoods or collin county used to be your range?:banghead:

if you moved from outside the lonestar state... WELCOME TO TEXAS!!!!!!!

if not then welcome to the DFW area, even though i don't live there anymore, haha.

i only know of the big "sportsman" stores like cabelas and bass pro, but if you like to just goof around and look at some guns every now and then, the monthly gun show isn't as bad as some might make them out to be. there are at least 2 big dealers that have more than decent prices.

I shoot at Garland Public Shooting Range. Starting at 121 and the Tollway, it takes me 25 minutes to get there on a Saturday or Sunday.

Thanks for the welcome. I have lived in Texas all my life and Have been in the metroplex for the past 12 years. just new to the Frisco area.
I just checked out the Garland Public Shooting Range and it looks great. I'll for sure give it a chance. It's still about 45 minutes away from me but that's not too bad.
Thanks again

Also check out gunmasters in Plano on Avenue K. Good reloading shop and used gun store. Welcome to the area.

GWISE55 .. Collin county gun range is pretty good. Just drive up to 380, turn right (east) and go through MCKinney. 4 miles on the other side of the Hwy5/Univeristy Dr intersection and it wil be on your right (south side).

I wasn't sure that anything existed more than 10 miles outside Travis county.

Heavens to Murgatroyd ... It had been a while since I've been there (been going to GunMasters and a friends home) .... guess I better scout out Sanger's range since I'm up close to Denton now.

good to hear that the garland range is alright. i've never been, but the same people own the leader range that i shoot at :)

by the way, is king of the hill modeled after garland? haha
