Im looking to get a cheap AR and the del-tons seem to be a good price. the ones i've been seeing around my area are the ones with no dust cover, no forward assist with the flat top upper and gas block.

Really Im just curious if the del-tons are decent guns. Im planning on leaving it fully flat topped and putting a scope on it.

From what I'm to understand... they get their stuff from DPMS... who is a "decent" manufacturer... Not the best... not the worst... good middle of the road stuff... I have a DPMS lower and it's great... and am planning to get the Del-ton mid length upper assy very soon... :)

:)

I bought an A2 mid-length upper from them and have had nothing but great results. I've had it for a week and put 200 rounds through it. Nice, tight groups and ate Wolf with no problems.

I would have no problems with any of their products.

Del-ton CARRIES DPMS stuff.

They also PRODUCE their own AR parts.

It's right on their website, man.

In case you haven't been following the saga, I was floating happily through life until Schleprok62showed up. He subliminally coerced me to build an AR and this is the result:

Its a DPMS lower with Del-Ton upper.

I shouldn't blame Schleprok62 though, I've always wanted to build one:evil:

What I was told by their salesrep... Was that they use Wilson barrels and most of the major components were supplied via DPMS... I don't know for sure, and have no way of proving it... just what THEY told me on the phone when I was trying to figure out which upper assy. to order.

Well, i guess that answers my question pretty well. I am thinking about trading my AK to get an AR. The AK is fun, but I've come to realize, i really like being able to shoot at a point on a target, not just at the target.

I've got the Del-ton 20" AR that I assembled as a kit with a DTI lower as well. great gun.

I have a Del-Ton 16" carbine heavy bbl flat top with a Double Star lower I got from Buds Gun Shop. The gun so far has cycled everything I've run through it and the accuracy is pretty darn good. I'm a happy camper.

I built a mid-length on a double star lower. Rifle runs great and looks good too. Mark

My rifle started out as a 20" flat-top Del-Ton upper and lower parts kit assembled on an Essential Arms lower. It's been through several modifications since I bought it (just one year ago) but it's always been a fine rifle. Even with the Del-Ton chrome-lined barrel, it would shoot about 1.25-1.5 MOA, which is not bad at all for a chrome lined barrel. Customer service is also tops. I'd highly recommend Del-Ton, I don't think you'll be disappointed.

I also have an A3 flat top upper from them. It has been flawless and accurate and shipped inside 2 days from the order time. Hell it was made in 2.5-3 hours!

Slightly off topic but - do the rifle kits have everything needed for a complete rifle or is there more I would need to get?

(looking at the del ton site)

I think I might just try my hand at building one - is it difficult for a novice (I did fix an old remington .22...lol) to build one?

When you buy the kit the upper is complete. When you put the lower together use duck tape on the sides of the lower when are installing parts and pins. That way if you slip you won't scratch up the finish. Here's a link for easy home trigger job that I have used and it helps on the trigger pull: http://www.sargenthome.com/15_Minute_AR_Trigger_Job.htm Mark
