Somehow, ALL the lock components fell out of mine.

Don't want to steal the thread, so in short: you're allowed to have pretty much anything as long as it's not automatic or for military use only. You need a permit which is issued by the police and you can get one easily if you pass a medical and a background check (having no prior convictions etc.). Getting a CCW is much harder, but not completely forbidden.
