I have my C&R license coming to me in the mail, and was looking at picking up a CZ-82. I'm also looking to get my ccw license here in the next couple weeks as well. from how I interpreted some of the laws, does the weapon has to stay at the location i put on my C&R form? Id like to be able to use the CZ as a carry weapon until i get something better.

The weapon(s) do not need to stay at your C&R location (home). If you go to the range with it, it will leave your home. No problem using the CZ82 for CCW as I had used my CZ52 on occasions as my carry pistol.

Shouldn't be a problem. Although the CZ-82 is about the only C&R gun outside of a Makarov I would even consider for Concealed Carry.

Check your local laws and ensure that if you have to "register" the gun on a blue card for Concealed Carry (like Clarke Co. NV) you do so. Otherwise, it's not really an issue.

jr45,

I hope you do this very infrequently. I can think of several reasons NOT to carry one of these and very few reasons for.

Agree. A C&R license is not the same idea as the Tax Stamp applied to NFA items. For those you have to keep a copy with it where-ever it goes. You should consider the C&R license as being permission for C&R classified guns to be shipped to your home without going through an 01 FFL.

They arrive, log them into the book, and forget about any further paperwork, unless you live in a place that requires registration, etc. After logging them in, you can treat them the same as any other gun, until you sell it off.

Congratulations on your licenses.I've used my CZ-82 for CC.It's quite concealable. As others have stated there is no problem moving around your C&R firearms as long as your state laws permit.
Ohio has no gun registration or permits to purchase required so you should be good to go with the CZ.

The address on the FFL is the premises where the collecting activity occurs. That is, it is the guns' "home." There is no reason why you cannot remove one and take it with you to the range or CCW so long as that is the "home" for the gun.

I would, however, strongly recommend that if you CCW a C&R to be sure it is in good condition with all safeties functional. A CZ82 in good, functional condition should be quite good to go.

If it's a run of the mill C&R, I see no problem with it as long as it's fully functional. If it were rare and/or expensive, then no. Wouldn't want to lose it if I'm involved in a shooting or something.

You wouldn't CCW a 1911 or BHP?

It would depend on the condition of the 1911 or BHP. If I had something like that in good condition I would want to keep it as an occasional shooter.

The CZ-82's were made from 1982 to 1994, and are dirt cheap.

Although the CZ-82 is about the only C&R gun outside of a Makarov I would even consider for Concealed Carry.

Colt made a couple 1911's in the 70's that honored the vets of WWII. I had a pre-series 70 that was nickle plated that was a comemmorative for the Pacific Theater of Operations (P.T.O) Mine had been removed from the case it came in and shot long before I ever got it. So, in essence, all the real collector's value was gone. These pistols are mentioned by name in the C&R list, as they are nowhere near 50 years old. I sold this one off to someone that made me an offer I couldn't refuse, but I wouldn't hesitate to carry one as they are in every way equal to a 1970's 1911 and probably have a lower round count.

In addition to the 1911s and BHPs, don't forget all those sweet old S&W wheelguns that have been great carry pieces for decades!

Chipperman,

You wouldn't CCW a 1911 or BHP?

Nope. While somewhat suitable, I like sights that I can see and the CZ-82 has that quality. Add in the fact that both BHP and 1911s tend to have trouble feeding JHP ammo without a throating job and the CZ-82 looks better and better.

Not to hijack, but why not? Over-penetration?

Decocker that is unreliable, brittle firing pin, inability to carry this SA pistol cocked and locked, grisley ergonomics, and add in the over-penetrating cartridge and it's a start.

I already own a cz-52 that i picked up at a flea market. With some aftermarket grip panels from gunbroker, a custom stainless firing pin that matches the original. and using wolf HP's I think its a fine pistol.

Czech's carried them without being cocked and locked for many years, just perfect the Israeli technique of pulling back the hammer with your off hand while drawing and fire.
