Imbel FAL from Atlantic Firearms? Yay or Nay?

I have purchased several firearms from Atlantic (none were FAL's though). All the rifles I purchased were top quality. I would not hesitate to purchase that FAL.

If you look around (FAL Files), you are likely to find a better deal.

From the noise maker it looks like an Entreprise rig.
Never had one or built on one so I can't say anything about the quality.

I have seen some really good deals on the files. Ya gotta be fast on the reply button though.

The Entreprise rifle uses an Entreprise receiver (NOT a Imbel!), The majority of the rest of the parts are surplus Imbel.

The DSA uses a DSA receiver, and new or surplus Austrian parts.

The Entreprise receiver is cast, with known problems of porisity in the castings, improper ejector block installment, and bad receiver rail geometry, and was back engineered.

The DSA receiver is machined from a forged billet using Austrian blueprints.

The receiver IS the most important part.

If Entreprise was selling a Imbel RECEIVERED rifle it would be an equal choice, but they are not.

I've got an Imbel receiver imported by Entreprise.... :)

The new Entreprise receivers are being well received. I read a positive review not too long ago by Gunplumber.

I would venture dollars-to-donuts that's an IMBEL kit on an ENTREPRISE receiver.

Its probably decent.

Not great... but decent.

Significant issues with some Entreprise receivers have been mostly associated with the placement of the ejector block. If there is an issue with the ejector block, problems will appear as "wobbly" magazine and/or bolt-over-base overrides, and magazine-follower overrides of the bolt-hold-open catch-pin.

Lengthening the mag-catch latch can improve these problems. Sometimes the bolt-hold-open catch-pin can be replaced with a longer pin to improve the follower override issues.

Hello, Gentlemen. I'm Kevin@entreprise(dot)com .

The IMBEL FALs at Atlantic are indeed Entreprise reciever-built FAL rifles. Were the receiver IMBEL, another US made part would have to be used. In its current configuration, the FAL is 922R compliant.

In Fall of 2006, we had several customer issues with ejector block welds where we introduce spot welds in order to affirmatively deny the installation of full-auto parts as prescribed by the BATF (although quite a few more steps would be required in any case to make a semi-auto FAL receiver FA). The ejector blocks were not loose, but rather unsightly due to inexperience on the part of the journeyman smith. He was removed.

These issues have been addressed, as have porosity (a different casting process was developed and made procedure). The porosity issue was never a mechanical problem, only cosmetic - the worst of the porosity cases (of which there were 3 in total) measured less than 1mm in diameter.

These receivers, which we have been improving for the last 15 years, are programmed off of blueprints, not reverse engineering.

In any event, all EAI rifles come with a lifetime factory warranty.

Kevin,

will you warranty the rifle even if sold by Atlantic Firearms with mostly Imbel parts? From what I understand, only the the model Atlantic is selling, only receiver is made by you guys.

I'm not Kevin, but having been down this road before with an AK build, what usually happens is pretty predictable.

Builder of the rifle blames the receiver.
Receiver manufacturer blames the builder.
Buyer is stuck in the middle with all the finger pointing and a poorly functioning or non-functional weapon.
Buyer is then screwed.

The SOG International flyer has new condition L1A1 FAL Rifles for $749.95. Inch pattern, flip-down handle and bolt handle, 20" barrel. I know nothing else about them, maybe someone else can chime in.

Well, then you can rest easy. We are both the builder AND the manufacturer of the receiver. So... in short, the buck stops here.

As for the barrels - IMBEL rifles were carried a lot but shot little. We use the original FAL barrel. this is good for many reasons, not the least of which is that we are able to keep the rifle as close as possible to the original FAL.

If you buy one of our FAL rifles, you will have a FAL that is as close as you can get (other than the pre-922R ones that were around in the 90s and 80s) to a military FAL using military parts. You will benefit from a lifetime warranty that covers both parts and labor, with the only stipulation being that you pay for shipping (as is the standard for such things).

As for the L1A1s - these are Inch rifles, meaning that they will need inch parts and inch magazines. the vast majority of FAL parts are metric (as are the IMBELs). Furthermore, these are built by Century.

I'll post a picture of some L1A1 parts that I bought from Century later today and let you come to your own conclusions.

Hi Kevin:

Thanks for the guarantee assurance. I just purchased an IMBEL rifle from Atlantic Firearms (should test fire in about 2 weeks). The reason I bought this rifle is that it *IS* almost identical to the rifle I trained on in South Africa in the 1980s.

Will let you know.

Ah. It was grim. I must have got the mother of all lemons. See my writeup in this thread at CalGuns.net -- http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/showthread.php?t=332869 [sorry for the cross post].

Since then I've built three FALs, respectively on Coonan, IMBEL and DSA receivers. So as a learning experience, the Entreprise rifle wasn't a total loss.

Sounds about right. So much for the "buck stopping here."

It always sounds good until there is an actual problem, then it is pass the buck.
