That Nikon Monarch would be a steal for under two hundred. What power range are you looking at? Some of the Weaver scopes can be had in the under or around two hundred and have very good glass.

www.theopticzone.com is a pretty good source, IMO.

Burris Fullfield II is about that price or a little less ($150-200), not sure hat it is better but it is another good option at that price point.

Burris Fullfield II 3-9x40 is 200$ and comes with binocs, gps or spotting scope.

I have the Fullfield II in 4.5-14x42 and love it.

Burris has a lower line than Fullfield II, called the Timberline.

I doubt there's a demonstrably-BETTER 3-9x40 for $200, but the Burris Fullfield II and the Sightron S2 and the Bushnell Elite 3200 are equal for about the same price.

I too am in the market for a scope in the $200 range for my Remington Classic in 35 Whelen. All on the list are 3X9X40.

My original short list was, Leupold VX-I ($219), Burris Fulfield ($195-$200) or the Bushnell Elite 3200, ($199).

I visited Cabela's last week, and the scope guy said he usually steers customers towards Leupold based upon their reputation. However, if you look at the "Feedback" on all three of the scopes on MidwayUSA or the Cabela's webpages, all scopes have their followers, with a few detractors.

Now I have a wrench thrown into the works. The Cabela's Alaskan Series 3X9X40 scope has been thrown into the mix. It is normally a $299 scope, which would put it in the Leupold VX -II class. However, I don't know much about this scope and I can get it on sale next week for $189! Seems like a deal but don't know about the quality.

Any thoughts??

Friends don't let friends buy Cabela's scopes. Great store. Crappy scope.

My brother went through a couple before deciding to get something else. Cabela's sent him a box to ship it back and refund his gift card. He is getting a Burris, Nikon or Leupold.

OTOH: My dad's .22-250 with Cabela's scope 6-18x power. It works and very cheap. But my brother had no such luck with them on his 270 Win. Spun reticle with both scopes.

Only the upper-end models of Burris are made in US. The Fullfield II s made in Phillipines.

+1 on the Bushnell Elite 3200!

I've got one on a heavy barrel Savage and I've never seen a scope with as much performance for 2-3x the money.

Thanks for the input!

Forneyrider, were those crappy Cabela's scopes the Pine Ridge line or the Alaskan Guide series. The Alaskans are quite a bit more espensive so I thought the quality would be better.....
