Howdy all,

My wife just bought her first rifle- a CZ 452 Scout. She picked this model because it fit her and few other rifles do.

Anyway, my wife is used to using rear aperture sights and has inherited my prejudice against scopes. What are the aperture sight options for the Scout? At this point we would like to avoid gunsmithing...

All I could find was a sight by Mendoza (who?) that is supposed to fit 11mm air rifle dovetails. Not sure how satisfactory this would be on a .22.

regards,

I had one of those but put the normal notch back. The ring was too far away from eyes for comfort. But there should be real diopter sights available for those guns (I've since sold mine), saw some configs on rimfirecentral.com

Thank you for the suggestion, Siderite, but that is not a receiver mounted sight.

I found out that Williams makes one of their FP receiver sights for the Scout. I'm waiting to hear back from them as to the no gunsmithing requirement.

I had bought a couple Williams FP-CZTKs for a couplr of my iron sighted 452s. They're, IMO, adequate. Not top notch like a true target rifle rear aperture sight but for a simple one, it'll do. It does feel a little delicate and can be easy to strip the set screw holes if you ar enot careful (it is explained in the instructions). The aperture is replaceable with larger or smaller holes. No remaoval of wood is necessary with the CZ models. The Scout version comes with a front sight riser as the rear sight is much higher than the rear sight of the Stock one. Got them direct from Williams (ordered over the phone).

The CZ ghost rings linked above will not work with the Scout rear sight as the Scout's sight is a simple pieces of bent sheet metal.

I found a peep sight in the parts bin that came off an old t-bolt and tried it.
It required a taller front post which CZ sent me for free. Good company. Great rifles.

Not sure if it has a grooved receiver but Williams makes a "universal" FP sight for rimfires with grooved receivers. Model FP-GR, IIRC.

I bought one for a Remington 581 and it was indeed as advertised, no gunsmithing. It fit into the receiver grooves very tight and kept zero.

The caveat was the rear sight required no gunsmithing, but the other sights in fact did. Had to remove the original rear sight, which left a hole (it was not dovetailed). And then the original front sight was not tall enough. I ordered the Williams Shorty Ramp w/"dovetail lock," which is another "no gunsmithing" solution, but installation turned out to be a disaster. (I can expand on that more if anyone is interested.) So the Williams FP-GR was too tall, and screwing it all the way to it's lowest setting ran the screw into my stock, so be careful.

The whole front sight ramp thing led me to just give up on the whole darn thing and I restored it all to stock.

Basically to summarize, I believe the Williams FP-GR sight is good, but you need to carefully consider the other sights and possibly get a smith involved.

The FP-GR will fit the CZ rimfire guns, however, the stock will have to be cut on the left side to allow clearance for the height adjustment. The FP-CZ and CZTK sights will work without any stock modification.

Here's another option. I put a Lyman 90 MJT target sight on mine (a Lux). Not the best field sight as it protrudes and a lot of bashing would not do it any good. But it clears the bolt and sits just right, close to the eye.

I do need to make a taller front sight as it shoots 3" high at 25yd as is.

A fairly simple cut in the stock is required but once the mounting block is in place, it looks like it belongs there.

Once the gun is warmed up, .25" is typical at 25yd. The group shown is our best so far. I think you will enjoy your rifle.

Here is a Lyman field sight that I mounted on my Lux.
