HK: Because we hate you

I bought my first HK (HK-91) in 1987-- and sold it for an obscene profit a few years later.

These days, I am in AR's (5.56 and .308) I know I suck, but oddly enough I've never been happier.

My USP 45 had 10 rounders and an ILS.

You sort of miss the point. I had a USP 45 with 12 round mags, and you could by more than 10 round mags from the factory easily.

With the mini-14 for example, you cannot buy the magazines. At all.

HK did'nt LIMIT you to 10 round magazines, they were available if you wanted.

The mystique factor isn't really important to this. The argument was made that "HK hates us" but there are other firearm makers that "hate us" as much or more by placing artificial limits on what they will sell us "peons". HK hates us, no question, but so do other makers.

Ruger certainly the worst offender there.

Ruger is perfectly happy to sell me hi-cap semiauto pistols and cheap mags for them all day long, and lots of bolt guns and shotguns and wheelguns. They happily support these weapons without calling my intelligence into question or suggesting that I have no value to them.

Nope - Ruger may cowtow to perception on occasion, but they don't HATE us.

HK, on the other hand, truly does HATE us civilians. ;)

Then you won't mind explaining how I have a number of ruger 20 rnd mags for my minis?

Not let other peoples negativity effect you. I you like the gun buy it.

I did not let other peoples negativity affect me. I liked the gun until I bought it and used it and found it unreliable even after 2 (two) trips back to the factory. And yes I have had others try shooting it to see if it was me, they all had the same problem.

Shrug...

I'll just share my experience with the brand:

I've owned 4 HK pistols, currently own one. I've been generally pleased with all of them. The only one I ever had a problem with was a W German P7M8 manufuctured 1984. Extractor flew off after a couple hundred rounds of FMJ on the first range session. Called HK, HK sent the replacement part less than a week later. On the phone I told the CS guy that that was a lot easier than I thought it would be considering the reputation they have among civilian gun owners. He laughed and said "yeah we get that a lot. Usually from people who've never owned the brand or tried to utilize the customer service."

I buy and carry what I happen to shoot well or enjoy shooting. I realize that means different things to different people, so I don't talk smack about the choices of others - be it a High-Point, Kimber, Ruger, whatever. Seen good and bad shooters of all brands, and as long as they're safe, it's no concern of mine.

Ya'll have fun with your hate thread, but I, and likely others who aren't "fanboy militant" in our ownership of the brand can't hop on this bandwagon.

They came with your gun or you bought them before Bill Ruger decided we didn't need them.

I have some too, but I can't order more. Go to their website or call a dealer and try to order some more. Be honest.

I posted this once already, notice anything missing?

In fact, they pretty much acknowledge that the only way to GET the magazine is to buy the gun.

Like many things on earth, if you want it, you just have to break out the ducats:

I
was just wondering the origins of this. Is it just b/c HK is notorious for having less than desirable customer service, or is there actually a funny story behind this little saying??

My dealings with hk customer service was quite extensive and very gratifying.

Yes, they are not selling 20rnd mags individually, but they are selling mini-14s with 20rnd mags.
Bill ruger isn't there, his son owned the company, but not anymore. Someone else owns the company, and now they are starting to offer the magazine with the gun and high capacity sr9. I believe TexasRifleman is right with the BS; they probably won't sell the 20rounders, which is a shame, and the only way to buy 20rnd mags is with the purchase of a gun, which is BS.
