Orlando Sentinel: 'Guns are everywhere,' Orlando police chief says

There should be a law against drug dealing and random murder...and for all 9's holding fewer than 32 rounds in da clip.

"What is the need?" asked Orange-Osceola's Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Jan Garavaglia, who autopsies the victims. "If you can shoot through the wall of a house, it's not for self-protection. . . . Why anybody has these types of rifles is probably not to do good."

One would think that a coroner would be particularly well aware of the fact that anything sufficient to kill an attacker is also going to go through multiple walls.

On the topic of reporting "gunshots," my friend's sister (just met her, don't know her views) was downtown (Little Rock) with us a few nights ago. We heard a series of loud reports, which obviously weren't gun shots, at least to my trained ears. She looks at me and says "I hope thats not gun shots." I assured her it was not, probably fireworks. Just then, we noticed the fireworks show coming from down near the river somewhere. Don't know what they were for.

When I was living in Daytona Beach, FL, I went to Orlando often, almost always carrying. I heard about the crime, but according to friends who grew up there, its not the entire town. Just certain neighborhoods, just like any other major city. Even Daytona had its crappy areas, which I learned to avoid. This is a bunch of standard fearmongering anti nonsense, just adjusted to fit Orlando.

I read this article this morning and it sickened me with the blatant bias. I also live in Seminole County (neighboring county NE to Orlando for those reading out of state) and I constantly notice the social discrepancy when driving 'downtown'.

Woo hoo!

More Guns - Less Crime = JOHN LOTT

I would love to see people open carry ALL over the country.

Not a forced 'thing or law' but have it all nice and open. Grin.

LEVEL playing field. Here's to guns. Cheers! I will resume sipping my tea now. Merci.

"On New Year's Eve in 2005, a bullet fired from an SKS killed an Orlando man more than a mile away."

Did they catch and convict the shooter? How did they know it was an SKS? Did they get a confession?

They're counting on public ignorance; and if they had a few more credible technical details they might have pulled it off.

Gee another left wing gun banner liar in a top cop slot. And all this noise about a ban with November closing fast. Ya think there might be a motive here that is not in the article? Here is an idea BAN THE ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS AND GANG COWARDS. Our country is being eaten by this cancer. We need less gun laws and more extreme methods of dealing with this invasion.

SaxonPig, LOVE the picture of the three rifles, but whats that itty bitty one in the middle? :D
I also own a Cetme, PTR-91, FAL-Imbel...
Love those .308's, just costs so much to feed them these days!

Oh well .... sometimes we have to see the bright side of it .... in Cincy the thugs usually just kill each other , so thats more or less a win-win situation

I'd see his point if the only potential attacker that I might need to defend myself from had a body built similarly to that nearly two-dimensional green-colored fellow from my childhood.

I'd be fine with less powerful/penetrating guns for defense if this coroner could assure me that the only potential attacker I might face will have the nearly two-dimensional build of that green fellow named "Gumby".

Illegal Immigrants

The Local Police do nothing in the way of checking on streets to see if you are illegal, I am not sure if they can.

Lawson Lamar, the State Attorney started a system that works, when a illegal inmate is released from prison after serving their sentence, they are deported.

Drugs are the problem, when I first saw the term "Recreational Drugs" in a newspaper I was appalled. How are you going to stop them? Make them legal, sell them in drug stores? I am not sure what the solution is, but it had better start soon.

I live in Orlando, actually in the Dr Phillips area, we love it! One night last week we went down town to the Church Street area, did not see a Orlando Police Officer, but the group I was with, all carried, did we need those common gang weapons the Hi Cap Glock 19s? did not appear so, but we had them any how, legally.

God Bless America.

Well, their War on Drugs hasn't done a thing but cost money. Let's all wait 30 years and see how their War on Guns goes. There can't possibly be a better way to solve this problem.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner! The War on Some Drugs is a dismal failure. If we ended it, the benefits would be enormous. Much much less crime. Much much less taxes (needed to fund massive law enforcement efforts). More tax revenue from legitimate drug business (just like alcohol taxes). And, AND less drug use, if we use some of the law enforcement money on education and treatment programs. It's win-win-win-win, bigtime!

The crime may be bad, but I bet it was worse before CCW was allowed.
If you can shoot through the wall of a house, it's not for self-protection
Any caliber suitable deer for hunting or self-defense will shoot through a house wall made of dry-wall, as they are very thin.

confiscations of 9 mm pistols
Were these 9mm pistols illegally acquired, and thus would not have been stopped by any ban?
