Gun Cleaning/Service Mat?

ESD stands for Electrostatic dissipative. The mats are grounded to eliminate any difference in "potential" between the circuit board and the technician inspecting or assembling the board. When they get extremely dirty or too old the mat loses its resistive properies and gets discarded and replaced. Since I am the guy "rollin it out" I saved some of the used material to cover my work benches, cleaning benches.

You probably can't find the ESD mats without paying for new stuff. It is very expensive.

I bought one of those glock armorers mats for doing pistols. For rifles I made a wooden cradle/vise thing with some scrap wood that was laying around.

For years I have used an old Radio Shack mouse pad: the thick spongy kind with a fabric top. It is the perfect size to fit into a range box.

For the permanent work bench, I use a Brownells mat. It is impermeable, but I wish it had more padding.

I always used to use newspapers, but I just bought one of the "Gun Cleaning Mats" from Gander Mountain.

Works really nice, it's soft on top, so parts don't roll around and it has a rubbery bottom so solvents don't leak through. It is also washable.

Since it only costs $9 it's not a bad price.

Plastic cutting board

A large plastic cutting board works for me.
Wife found it for me at a thrift shop, Its none marking, small parts show up on the white materiel, the groves around the border hold parts.

cardboard from old desk blotter

gray oil absorbing shop towels from walmart (PIG ? towels?)

regular paper towels, newspaper

mat that was in the fiskars sewing case

I use a mat that I got from Cabellas. I also use another one as a shooting mat on the shooting table at the range so I'm don't get spinters in my elbows

an old ironing table that i got from a yard sale for $2.00. the cover comes off easily, and is machine washable. but, you have to buy an old one. the new ones covers are so cheap and chincy that you might as well say it isnt there.
