Smoke Rizen and I are heading out early Sunday to hunt some walk-in property near Syracuse.

Two people don't make much of a pheasant hunt. Anybody want to join us?

Better yet, since we're buying KS licenses, anybody have access to private land in Western KS we could hunt? Since we'll have the licenses, we'll be open to hunting in western KS throughout the season.

Hey Larry, I'll get in touch with some buds and co-workers and see if anyone's going out Sunday. If so, would you mind driving a few miles east?

Sisco
We could go as far as Garden City, but that's about 3-3 1/2 hours for us. I'll wait and see what Larry thinks. This is our first trip this year and due to schedules we can only make one day, next trip will be two days. Still looking forward to it. Last year was great and from reports the birds are there this season too.

Everyone I was able to get hold of is working or out of town this weekend. If you guys make another trip east, let me know and I'll see if I can get something together.

Sisco, I'm sure we will be making more trips. Bud and his grandson went several times last year.

My dad had heart surgery last December and spent a month in the ICU, ultimately passing away in January, so I didn't have time for hunting last season. :(

We looked over lots of walk in land today, as far south as Hugoton, and as far north as Leoti. A few were nice looking patches which we got out and hunted, but most were too far from feed sources and way too large for two guys and no dog.

We did scare up a couple of roosters, but they were out of range. Oddly enough, we almost ran over two hens after we re-entered Colorado.

We plan another trip soon. Any more ideas? Maybe farther east?

Hell, I'm in San Diego and my dog and favorite guns are in Boise, but I'd love to go to Kansas and I'm sure so would the dog. I've heard Big Rock Candy Mountain style stories about the pheasant there.

Never been there, though.:)

The walk-in's are nice but usually waaay too big with a lot of cover. Lots of hunters and dogs are the best bet there.
Give me a little more notice next time you plan on coming out and I'll see what I can get together.

Will do, Sisco. We plan on getting some use out of the licenses.

Yeah, the walk-ins looked good for cover, but some of them would have taken twenty guys with half a dozen dogs. We walked the edges of a few that looked promising, but the birds would have had an easy time giving us the slip.

My B-I-L went out week ago Saturday around Lyons. It was way too hot and the birds wouldn't fly. Said they saw nearly 100 birds but maybe got a dozen flyers.
