Being that my eyes aren't what they used to be, I'm trying to decide between the scout mount and the traditional mount for the M1 in order to improve my accuracy so I can begin to see the accuracy of the rifle. Which do you prefer and why?

See both here - http://www.thecountryshed.com/m1_garand_scope_mounts.htm

So which is easier to work with when loading clips and for cleaning?

Also, have you experienced trouble with either type and was it fairly easy to overcome?

Thanks in advance.
Chuck

I chose the scout mount because the traditional mount is offset and requires a cheek pad to get your head in the correct position.

It will work with either a long eye relief scope, or a red dot. Here's a picture of mine with an Eotech. The 1 MOA dot on the Eotech works fine to 200 yds.

The scout mount replaces the rear handguard and doesn't interfere with field stripping the Garand for cleaning. It is easily reversible if you want the wood handguard on again.

Also, it doesn't interfere with unloading a clip. I know this is rarely done, but it is a bit complicated with an offset scope hanging over the clip release.

(I remove the Eotech for cleaning...it rezeroes just fine on the rail.)

jpwilly - Oh, I agree and will go with CMP if that is the mount I choose. I only used that link because it has both pictured on the same page.

Scout type. I have the CMP mount system. I attempted to use
the BSA Reflex, but it didn't work out do to having to hold my head
quite high to pick up the dot. Also attempted to use it on a an M1
Carbine with a Pro Mag platform with the same results. Mounted a
BSA pistol scope 2-7 on the Carbine, and Walla, that works great.
Will order a second scope for the Garand! Like you, it appears I'm
headed for trifocals!!!
