This is surprising he has this card at all, considering how anti-gun this guy is. :neener:

Blagojevich free on $4,500 bond

Dec. 09, 2008

(AP) — A federal judge in Chicago has ordered Governor Rod Blagojevich released on his own recognizance after the Democrat was hit with federal corruption charges.

U.S. District Judge Nan Nolan said "Good afternoon, governor" in greeting Blagojevich at the afternoon bond hearing. The governor was wearing sweat pants, gym shoes and an athletic shirt.

He was released on a signature bond that specifies that he'll forfeit $4,500 bond if he doesn't appear in court. Blagojevich also was ordered to relinquish his passport and his firearm owner's identification card.

The governor was arrested at his home Tuesday. He's facing charges that accuse him of trying to benefit financially from his ability to appoint President-elect Barack Obama's replacement in the U.S. Senate.

I'm angling for an exception to the Off Topic rule here - after all, he did lost his Firearm Owner's ID!

He'll lose $4500 but they'll spend millions looking for him if he skips.
You or I try what he did and see if the judge bids you "good afternoon *your name*

in Ill-Annoy you have to apply for one in order to be able to buy guns and ammo in the state. I'm not sure what all the rules are, but I have a friend up there who has one.

ETA: looks like a few people answered while I was typing.

What's an FOID? Do you have to have one to buy a gun?

To purchase or possess a gun or ammo in Illinois. Any gun, even a duck gun. All ammo, even .22s. Also, some air guns over a certain fps rating are considered firearms. Without it, possession is a misdemeanor. Selling a gun to someone without a FOID can be a felony. It's an Illinois thing. If you are indicted for a felony or domestic violence, you lose it until you are exhonerated. if you are convicted, obviously you lose it forever. They do a background check before it is issued. It costs $10 and is usually issued within about 30-60 days. The form is actually very simple to complete, you need to prove a picture and the $10 and mail it to Springfield.

Unless you're the Governor. Remember, those rules are just for the little people.

Wow, sucks to be in IL

Yes, yes it does. I try to stay away from there. I can own anything in IN as well as a Lifetime LTCH permit. KY will honor my permit and I believe OH will as well. I actually do more outdoors activities in KY than IL for that reason.

To try and keep this on-topic, I'll ask a silly question; if you legally lose you FOID card, what are you expected to do with your firearms, and how long do you have to address this?

That's a cunundrum right there. I know people in IL who think it's illegal to even own a firearm in IL because of the stupid FOID thing. Very confusing to common folk but I guess thats how they(IL politicians[voters?]) want it.

That is a good question, and I am not sure. I think the general idea is to loan them to another person with a FOID card or turn them over to the cops. But I am not sure on loaning, because that might be considered a transfer, and even non-dealer transfers are supposed to have the 24/72 (long gun/handgun) hour waiting period.

more hypocracy

Governor Blagojevich is a long time supporter of gun control. He has tried to raise the price of an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card from $5.00 to $500.00, saying that such a large increase was necessary so people would think twice about wanting to own a gun. Blagojevich vetoed 3 gun bills in 2005, which would have:

Eliminated the police database of gun purchases
Eliminated the waiting period for someone wanting to buy a rifle or shotgun, when trading in a previously owned weapon
Overridden local laws regulating transport of firearms
.

Funniest of all:
In February 2006, in his "State of the State" address, he talked of the need for a state ban on semi-automatic firearms, prompting threats from several gunmakers in the state to leave. Among these were ArmaLite Inc., Rock River Arms, Les Baer Custom and the legendary Springfield Armory.

If you walk into a gun store in Illinois and ask to see a firearm in the case, they will ask to see your FOID card. They can't even let you handle a firearm unless you have a FOID. How stupid is that?

To sum it up, I lived in Illinois and my dad was an FFL, he also owned firearms. His FOID card was revoked and the police charged him with a felony and confiscated our guns.

That's what happens in Illinois. This was in 1996, I imagine it's much worse now.

The Governor was actually arrested on curruption charges? His old crony Obum will be happy to pardon him.

1. Yes. You should have heard the local United States Attorney rip him a new one at the 11:00am news conference.

2. Maybe at the end of his term in office. Presidents never do this upfront. It isn't politically expedient. Obama is as politically expedient as any other president in the 20th century.

There will be a LOT more charges, and Obama won't return his phone calls. Right now he's DESPERATELY hoping none of it sticks to HIM. There is ALREADY contradictory commentary flying about if and when Obama has had contact with him since the election.

THIS is Chicago politics. THREE IL governors have done time since the 70s. These are the people who seek to ban posession of guns by everyone but themselves. Yes, IL DOES suck indeed.

Of course the corrupt Governor has a firearms card. He is a do as I say and not as I do politician. He just does not want anyone else to have guns but him and his. Hope he gets a nice reception in jail.
