Things I have taken great pleasure from shooting and/or have taught me more about shooting. Things I will always keep at least one of:

1) 1911
2) S&W .38 or .357 k-frame (like the 10 as mentioned)
3) Ruger .22 auto (and a reactive target!)
4) nice .22lr rifle
5) 12 gauge over/under

I had all of them by the time I was 25 or so except the Ruger .22 auto. Just got into those last year. What a bummer - should have got one as a kid.

Bare minimum:

1. 12 or 20 gauge pump (e.g., Mossberg 500)
2. .22 rifle (e.g., Remington 541T)
3. .30-06 bolt action (e.g., Remington 700 BDL)
4. .38/357 revolver (e.g., Ruger GP100)

I started shooting handguns with a s&w model 10; as I have stated previously in various posts, I still kick myself for ever trading that gun away...:banghead:

Long guns started much earlier, as a boy hunting with my dad and assorted uncles, cousins, grandpa's, etc. Even mom, who demonstrated good skill on running rabbits with a .410 ga bolt gun from JC Penney's-

I believe a good quality .22 rifle, 12 gauge shotgun, and model 10 could easily cover all the bases I need covered- Having a good quality 1911 is always a bonus---:D

An 870 Shotgun, a 22 rifle, a rifle in your favorite caliber and a good dog.

  1. A 9mm, .40, or .45 pistol.
  2. A .38 caliber revolver.
  3. A 12ga shotgun.
  4. A .22 rifle.
  5. A centerfire rifle.
  6. 500 to 1000 rounds for each.
  7. A good folding knife, serrated edge.
  8. A Swiss Army knife and/or a brand-name multi-tool.
  9. A good fixed blade knife, fine edge, 4" to 7" blade.
  10. A sharpening steel and a whetstone.

Everybody gets to pick their own makes and models.
