Leupold Mark 2 tactical 6x18. about $600

A mk2 is just a way over priced VX-II. If you can't afford to get a real mk4 save yourself some money and get target turrets put on a VX-II or VX-III by the Leupold custom shop.

To the OP check out the Bushnell 4200 tactical, Sightron SII Bigsky or SIII, Zeiss Conquest or Leupold VX-3/mk4. If you want a budget target scope get a Super Sniper.

burris, nikon, pentax, supersniper, or the tried and true Bushnell 3200 or 4200 series. I like a good Weaver as well...oh yeah, Millet just put out a fine target scope, and got a Navy contract with it no less.

I no longer drink the Leupold lemonade. I have been using a Pentax and a Mueller on my M1A's and I'm shooting as well as my friends with the high priced units. I may not have as many bells and whistles, but I do have the clarity and reliability.

Nikon monarch - best buy for the $ all-in, Put on the target knobs and you're good to go.

best glass is Swarovski. Schmidt and Bender - good glass and brick outhouse build. Then Nikon Monarch. Then maybe burris, khales, and down the list in optics is Leupold.

Depends - how much did the gun cost?

All my big game rifles wear a Leupold (VX II, VX III, or fixed power) or a Bushnell Elite. These have never failed me.

I love Leupold, but I hear the Simmons 6.5-20x50 is an excellent rifle for tactical uses!

How much money? $300> Nikon Buckmaster (love mine), $400> Super Sniper, Falcon Menace, $400< Nikon Monarch

The Cabela's Alaskan Guide series is a really good line, they're very well priced for the quality. Other than that, I'd recommend Nikon or Leupold. I've heard others recommend the Bushnell 4200 and 6500 Elite series, I have no experience with them becuase I've had such very poor results with Bushnells in the past (like I said, this was before the Elite lines came out, but I'm slow to switch to a company I've had bad experiences with.)

Look at Nikon best for the money. Never had a single problem with mine and they are accurate. I have had leupold and other high end scopes but on my rifles that go hunting alot I have a Nikon I have alot of meat in the freezer thanks to those scopes.

I would put a IOR 3-18x42 just like I have on my rifle.

The Mark 2 has better glass, better clicks, better repeatability, and the Mark 2's are tested on the same equipment as the Mark 4's...they pass the same tests (durability)

I have a couple of Leupold VXIII 6.5-20 LR scopes and am very happy with them. My new Remmy Sps Tactical is currently sporting a Simmons Aetec 6-20x44AO. I'm looking to sell it within the next couple of weeks to fund another Leupold.

I got a Mueller from a guy here in a trade. I'm pretty happy with it. Some other guys were a bit surprised by it. (in a good way).

Put a little thought into your base & rings. I can't afford the crazy money stuff either. But I think budgetig for something decent is a good investment.

Midway has the Simmons 6.5X20X50 AO on sale the $110. I just ordered 3more for me and my 2 sons-in-law. I cannot say enough good things about this scope. Check out the reviews.

I am not going to get into a Leupold vs. argument but IMO 4200 glass is better than VX-II glass and the mk2 is a VX-II with target turrets. I am not knocking your decision to go with a mk2 but I just see better options in the Leupold lineup that make more sense. For example buy a VX-III and have m3 turrets put on then you have a mk4 for the price of a mk2.

If you are going to do some long range shooting I would recommend getting target turrents on the scope you purchase. I would also consider looking into a used scope. You can get a lot more for your money and get a lot better quality scope.

What is long distance shooting to you? I don't have enough info to even make a suggestion right now. I know people who think 400 yards is long distance, and that would require one class of scopes. I know others who actively practice at 800y and will take 1000 y shots at 14 inch gongs (and 75 percent of the time they hit). They use a whole different class of scopes.

There are many "rules" out there that go something like... "spend 1.5 times one your scope than you did your rifle" but if you think about it... it doesn't make sense. Why would I spend 1500 on a scope for a 1k rifle if I am only going to be shooting 400 y max when there are several great scopes for 6-700 that will do that task admirably?
