yea that type of scam got one of my co-workers robbed. an innocent looking girl asked to be let in. 2 guys ducking out of view. As soon as the heard the latch opened, they bust the door, beat him to the ground and robbed the place. he was living with his cousins who were working at the time so the perp took their valuables too.

good job there to the OP for being able to handle the situation

Good job flea! I'm glad everything turned out well and you didn't have to kill anyone.

Awesome. Good work!

I was already going back several years when the hands shaking was first mentioned. If it was me, I would be having a few bottles and moving to another hotel out of town. And be sick for a week.

All I can say is a big thumbs up and a excellent catch on something that would have been very bad.

Moderators should sticky this story as a lesson in how to handle a situation properly.

I have absolutely nothing else to say except... Kudos and great work!

+1 for the good guys.

I had a similar incident in a crappy apartment years. Ago - woman asks to be let in. Never heard of her. I refused - she says: What are you scared of a girl?

My repeated yells of Go away, etc. worked - I heard her say - he won't open and they left.

Luckily, no need for the gun. I didn't mention it but that's not a critique - just what happened.

Must be some common plan.

Way back in my day we had whores knock on the door whenever they see a trucker pull up in a daycab and get a room, it's so easy for that trucker or room renter to become a target. They give you a few hours to settle down and then knock on your door. Usually with someone else out of sight.

That has made me extremely... picky about which hotels to stay at and when.

Wife and I was discussion one place to stay on our next trip and evolved that discussion to a RV instead that can be parked in a rather secure (More or less) location out of the way of anything like these roachtrap hotels.

And......this is why I NEVER answer the door for somebody I don't know, especially at night. Even if they claim to be a cop I'd call dispatch to confirm.

In fact...after a similar experience (similar in sense that I got a weird knock on door and it was a girl who said her name like that - I didn't answer) anytime I get a knock on the door I don't say ANYTHING, I just look out the peephole. I just completely ignore it now.

This is a common ruse to get access for a robbery. If possible choose a hotel with indoor access the rooms. It doesn't eliminate the threat, but it does cut it down as access to the halls is usually restricted.

Flea, when do you go back to that town to testify in court against the two people arrested by the police??

Might be best not to stay at that same motel. :)

Nice work!

That's when it dawned on me. I could see his mouth moving, but I never heard a word the guy said. I later found out from people watching that the guy was daring me to come closer so he could "cut my punk ass into ribbons," and that "I'd be dead if he had brought his brother's gat."

I temporarily lost my hearing during and for a few seconds after my shooting. I fired six times and did not hear a shot. My neighbor was also yelling to me asking, "did you get them?" immediately afterwards and I didn't hear a word she said. The adrenaline kicks in and you can't hear a thing. I also got tunnel vision.

Slowing time is my problem, Ive learned to adapt to it by scheduling priority and racing the last few seconds in real time. But everything moves very slowly, almost forever to complete an action. Others have told me that I was very fast to thier eyes. I dont believe a word they say.

Another example is fingers become very large sausages on the very tiny cellphone keypad. And each one weights 10 pounds, nine, one.. uff... whew.. one finally let me catch breath and form a huge sentence dump onto the poor 911 lady on the other end.

But after the fight or whatever problem I become a mush. Useless. I hate that. Especially if more problems are inbound.

Glad you're okay, Flea! Sounds like you handled the situation as well as any, and probably much better than most, myself included.

As for you choice of pistol, I can only agree wholeheartedly with your choice. About this time last year I used my trusty Colt Government model as a hole punch. It makes a very nice .451" diameter hole in the bad guys' radiator.

Thanks for reminding us to stay on guard when staying in a hotel. I'm going to use this to explain to my family why we don't open the door to an unknown person.

Good job. Not much to critique. I think I might have left the phone line open, but as someone pointed out that could be a double edge sword if you did make a mistake.

When I was reading this, I was thinking, "Stay in the room. You shouldn't go outside at all." But on the other hand if you waited for him to come inside, you would have had little choice but to shoot and probably kill him. That would have been a much worse outcome in a lot of ways.

Glad you're OK!

I later found out from people watching that the guy was daring me to come closer so he could "cut my punk ass into ribbons," and that "I'd be dead if he had brought his brother's gat."

The white guy (we'll call him James), had a 4" folding blade on him, a screwdriver, the crowbar, and a magazine for a .25 auto.

Obviously he wasn't paying attention in Math class.
Otherwise he might have learned that .45>.25

These two must have been high to try and rob you at a motel of all places. Lots of witnesses and things improvise for defense. Me I always have a steak knife and a few other kitchen utensils available when I travel. I don't have a CCW, I don't even own a handgun.

But seeing as these two both hit the dirt when you pulled the 1911, I guess you can use a pistol for defense without anyone getting hurt.

Sure am glad I don't have to travel and stay in cheap motels anymore! Did that for many years, had my share of knocks on the door from whores and phone calls saying "you left your car lights on". Never had a gun or CWP back then either.

Last time I stayed in a cheap motel I almost walked into the dude who was breaking into my car! He ran when he heard me coming.

Way cool! Glad to hear it went well. I can only wonder though "when" they get out...... Hope they dont pull this again. And if they do.....may someone like you be at the door of that hotel room to greet them.

"He said I would have been 100% justified in ending both their lives."

Dont believe everything a cop tells you.

Once you seen there was a guy outside with a crowbar ready to bash your head in you never should have went outside and put yourself in a position to get your head bashed in. Even if you had a gun on you, you dont know if that gun will save your life. Not getting in the position to get your head bashed in once you knew there was someone wanting to would have been the safest thing to do.

:) Glad to hear your okay, and thank god you had your firearm on you. If it wasn't in your immediate area, things would have become alot more violent and dangerous in seconds.
