I traded into an East German makarov today.:) I've heard from a few people that they can be like Lay's potato chips, you can't have just one. I can see how that may be true. I want another already:D

They are addictive ... so simple yet so functional ... I find it hard to believe that most of Eastern Europe used an ineffective gun for about 50 years ... just wish they were still available for under $200 ....

Ive only ever had the chance to shoot one once, in the middle of the night on a logging road. but the sheer fun and simplicity of the weapon, not to mention the awesome muzzle flash (in the middle of the night) made me fall in love with it i want one really bad. i just don't have the money.

Yes they are very cool! I love the feel of them - so compact and functional. Plus, it's an auto loader and yet its dead-nuts reliable.

I carried one briefly and I liked the centralized mass more than my other carry pieces - even my polymer.

I didn't know anything about them when I bought my first East German back in 1996 for $169. I now have seven true Maks and always on the lookout for a good deal on another one. To say they're addictive is an understatement.

My brother picked up a nice East German Mak for just over 200 bucks. Now I'm trying to convince him to buy the other one they had there next to it (costs more). I have a Bulgie that's great. Got it for under 200 bucks a few years ago.

novaDAK - the other Mak next to the one your brother bought must be nicer if it costs more. How much more? Nowadays, it would be a good buy if it costs less than $300...if it's still there.

I traded a Kel Tec P3at for it. I've wanted a Makarov for awhile now, so it was well worth it to me (I kept my P32;)) As soon as I held it (the Makarov)I was in love:) I'm going to start my search for a Bulgie or Russian model soon!

They were in about the same condition, the more expensive one came with aftermarket grips and 6 mags for $300, while the one my bro bought came with two mags and holster, etc.

Buy it. NOW. Seriously, an EG Mak nowadays will normally run $400+ without any accessories

The problem is that there is absolutely no reason that the Mak should cost that much. Its not like its on the "ban list" or anything and its not a hi cap pistol. Its pure insanity and it completely wrong! With that said, I cannot wait to get my hands on a east german mak!

Makarov mags alone cost at least $15 apiece, making it a $240 EG, considering two mags come with the pistol! And, if the aftermarket grip is a Pearce, that would be another $20 saving. Buy it!

Well, there is a reason they are going up in price. No more imported handguns from Russia and I believe Bulgaria. All the EG Maks have probably hit our shores. No new Maks are being made anywhere. So, the supply in the U.S. is most likely finite.

I bought mine (Russian Baikal) in the early 90s, for a little over $100
NIB,
Mags are a pain to find and expensive, but ammo is still cheap (for now) relatively..

Great gun,it feels perfect in your hand, glad I got mine, just dumb luck the shop had them, and I checked it out, took it home!

I bought an East German Mac in a gun shop in NH 2 months ago. I've been looking for one for awhile and almost fell over when I saw it in the case. I paid 200 for it.
