sporterized M1 carbine?

Sporterizing an M1 carbine is like peeing in the holy water at church. Whether you follow that churches doctrine or not, it is still just wrong.

There was a time when some guys thought that was the way to go but
that time is long gone. Clearly any gun you own is at the mercy of whatever you want to do to it but don't expect you will get many to agree with you.
All of these projects make me cringe . Heck ,I don't much like even the tapco stuff on something like a SKS . A M1.M1 Carbine or a 03 in anything less than 100% is just so sad.
Haveing said all this one of my favorite guns is a 03 that was chopped up many years ago by who knows who. It is pretty much past any reasonable
restoration so I put a lyman peep on it and shoot it for grins and giggles

Why would you ever want to mess with such a nice looking firearm?

IMO, THE STANDARD M1A IS JUST PLAIN BUTT UGLY!
so, if i can find a way to make one look nice, at a reasonable cost, i would get one and do it. i have the same opinion of the garrand rifle. they are great rifles, but ugly as sin itself! i understand that these were made for war, and cosmetics were not an issue. but i am not going to war, and i do not want ugly guns.

Can you reversibly put a dot on an m1 carbine in a manner akin to the garand scout scope mount or the b-quare side mount?

bistrisokol - I would suggest an Ultimak, like ndh87 mentioned in Post #29. I've got one on my AK, and I'm thinkin' bout putting one on my Carbine.

I agree with the others above, this is the only modificaton you need. The carbine is almost perfect as issued. It can be put back to stock in 10 minutes if you want to remove the ultimak mount, but you will have to rezero, etc when re-installing it again.

beautiful rifle there cocked and locked.

ussr and sharps too.

i too think they are awesome looking as issued.

i even had an iver johnson 22 lr us carbine because i liked them so much.

its a very faithful recreation of the little carbine in 22lr.

it was a great shooter too. and made in germany, lol. hows that for irony?

+1

Flyboy - That thing is absolutely hideous! Same goes for those thumbholes :barf::barf::barf:.

If I found one of those somewhere, I'd probably rescue it. Take 'er home and go about finding a nice GI stock for it. Then toss the sporter stock in the fireplace so it would never desecrate another Carbine.

Agreed. Every time someone sporterizes an m1 carbine, it makes baby jesus cry.

My boss recently gave me a sporterized M1 carbine. It was a hidious thing. The perps polished the receiver, barrel, trigger group and bolt. Then deep blued the receiver, barrel and trigger group and left the bolt in the white. I put it back to mil-spec trim with the exception of the polished parts. It's a Saginaw and it shoots great. It actually looks pretty cool now. I'll post some pics later.

A Micro red dot from Aimpoint is all this sweet carbine needs.

This one would be equally as sweet with a Micro.

scope mount

go to CDNN they have mounts that go in the rear sight dovetail.and any red dot you can think of.plus the short scopes.:uhoh::eek:

Be aware that carbine sights are staked in, and you can, at worst, break the receiver trying to remove the rear sight. Be careful if you go this route.
