Hello,
I usually just lurk but figured I'd chime in on this thread. All chains are out of many calibers here. Quizzed the gun counter guy at one of the local Wally Worlds other day. He said any new shipments they get are sold out by the middle of the next day. He said the last .22 Federal bricks they got in sold in a couple of hours. For sure, there are many calibers that ARE on the shelf in some stores, but no handgun ammo can be found anywhere. Only once in the past month have I seen anything, and that was 3 boxes of Blazer .45 ACP and 3 of 9mm. The local Bass Pro is out of everything except the high dollar ceterfire rifle rounds in select calibers. Haven't checked Dick's Sporting Goods yet, but Academy, all the Wally Worlds, and Bass Pro are pretty slim....

I have noticed things have actually gotten worse lately than they were before.

Are the ammo manufacturers picking up production at all?

hoarding

I bought several cases of 7.62x51 for 200.00 each last year. I don't like Obama and I sensed this coming. I ran to the bank and bought everything I wanted last year.

I have not shot one round since OBAMA became president. I have plenty of ammo for all my weapons. I buy all the ammo I find now. If I see 00 buck I will clear the whole shelve. I grabbed a ton of 380 acp at Cabellas a few months back. There was also tons of 45 acp and I loaded up on that. Now the shelves are bare. I been going to Bass pro and Cabellas every week to grab what ever is there. New ammo laws are coming and a huge tax will follow. Get ammo while you can still get it.A 1,000000 is a good number.

Not to be a jerk but two things.

I have researched the cause of the Ammo shortage and the enemy is US!--People buying ammo by the gazillion round count is what is leading to the perceived shortage.

Secondly,-Duke may have not always been the nicest poster but I often found his posts interesting and useful---Did he get banned for his sentiments in this thread?

If so that is outrageous!

What the heck Mods--I like you guys and you run a good shop but this is overboard.

Ned..Cabella has a backlog on .38Spcl JHP 125 Gr. box of 50 that has me waiting until May 15 before they receive it and then ship it to me. Ammo is sold before it's made.

Don't anyone jump on me for not rolling my own. Don't have the money or the know how! :O)

My local gun shop sold me a box of 50 .38 146 Gr. lead..for 39.99..and that was gone in 45 minutes!

2RCO..couldn't agree more!

Winchester USA Handgun Ammunition .38 SPL 130 GR FMJ
Backorder-Tentative arrival to Cabelas 05/29/09

Put in a small order this weekend. Figure I might be out of 38s by then with nowhere local to find any and I really like shooting my new LCR

22 ammo prices

Local dealer has 22 ammo in stock, from $25.00 to $35.00(box of 500) depending on brand. Does this seem too high to you?

I was at my local dealer the other day and he had Winchester XPert HV's for $28.99/box of 500. I guess like every other Cal. the prices are going up :cuss:

Without federal bulk packs at 12.98 a box I don't know what I would do. I just don't feel that more than 20 dollars a box on .22 is a sane price.

I have pretty much decided now to only shoot .22s from here on out and clean and polish my centerfire ammo for a day when I will absolutely need them.

Maybe even set up a museum display for them.

I decided the same thing.

Other than Walmart or perhaps a few other big box stores, $25-$30 seems to be the new normal price for low cost 22LR ammunition. Get used to it. I don't see anything changing in the short term.

I haven't been too worried about the ammo shortage so far. 90% of my shooting is either handloads or .22 LR, and there's a good year or three's supply of primers and rimfire around here, from a packrat phase I went through a while back.

Yesterday, I ran by a Bass Pro Shop while out running some errands. It was kind of shocking. No, and I mean no, .22 LR. Two lonely boxes of .223, in some premium bullet load. No 9mm or .380. They did have pretty good stacks of .40 S&W and Remington .308 FMJ.

Plenty of shotgun shells, including buck and slugs, and plenty of all the less mainstream calibers.

Guess I'll need to go get a .17 HMR, a .300 Weatherby, and a .45 GAP.

$25 to $30 a box for bulk ammo 500-550rounds is a rip off. I was at a large retailer this weekend and bought 2 cases of Federal bulk they just got in the day before. The price per 550 rounds was $13.47 X 10 boxes = $135.00. I have to give them credit as they are not capitalizing on the situation like some of the folks on Gun Broker reaming the poor folks that are out of ammo. Shop around and be patient........and get up early. The early bird gets the worm. My son and I each scored a case for that price first thing Sat morning. We are not hoarders, just shooters looking for enough ammo to get us through the summer for a reasonable price. BTW we did leave an xtra case for someone else to snag.

Good luck,

strat8

I used to work on handloads and test them for accuracy before I cranked out a lot. Now when I handload I will just go with what the book says and crank out so I can get as many rounds to use for hunting as I can. accuracy Testing will just be too expensive.

Has Obama Won?

I think it kind of odd that where i am here in Delaware we cannot find any form of assault rifle that isnt so far overpriced it is rediculous

i also have a hard time finding any ammo unless its target load for shotguns
almost all pistol and rifle ammo is gone from the shelves

this all makes me think that maybe President Obama had it all up his sleeve to cause parranoia to the point that we buy everything up and leave shelves bare just to make sure no one will have these evil black rifles or the ammo to run them
maybe im a bit off my rocker but i find it odd that he was hellbent on banning these guns and now all of a sudden has decided that other things will take precidence before he addresses the AWB

Does anyone feel that there will be an actual end to the ammo shortage?

and if we are all just paranoid do you think there will be a market flood for assault rifles once the companies start catching up?

anyone more informed than i am have any comforting words that will make me stop thinking about giving up my guns because ammo is gone and reloading isnt an option?

i havent shot once this year in fear of not getting any more ammo
last year we shot once a week on sundays more consistantly than most go to church

Don't give Pres Obama any credit not earned. He didn't plan this. If he could successfully plan an execute such a complex scheme, he would plan an execute a scheme to fix the economy in 6 months. But he can't.

No one planned the current situation. It's the result of reactive and defensive human action. Ours.

locally, the supply is improving. local gun dealers have several ar variants available, 223 and 7.62x39 ammo are widely available, 30 round mags are easy to come by, and primers are getting back on the shelves.

the only tight spot i can see from here is in factory 9mm loads. a month ago finding it around here was sporadic, but it could be had. now it is a little tighter. a month ago there was no 308 to be had at any price. now, i see more 308 available in one shop than they could probably sell this year. i just picked up a case of hornady 308 because it seemed like the thing to do... and i didn't even make a noticeable dent in their stock.

point is, i think things are beginning to look up a bit. i can't wait to see cci primers back on the shelves...

Obama really, REALLY wishes that we wouldn't make such a ruckus and just believe him when he says he's not going to ban guns. This buying frenzy shows that he can't fool the right people at the right time. We're not going to be passive and wait to see what he does. It's his worst nightmare.

Demand can't possibly stay this high forever. Sooner or later (I'm betting on sooner) this bubble will pop, and there will be pallets of Wolf on sale in the aisles. The demand is caused by US. NOT HIM.
