I recently bought a new Ruger Mini-14. I'm not sure if it is a problem or not, but it there is a gap inbetween the stock and the metal out front by the barrel. Is there supposed to be a gap there, is my gun made wrong, or did I assemble the gun improperly?
I am not too sure on this but some theorized that by having the receiver only contacting and locked into the stock and allowing the gas system and barrel to "float" it could solve some accuracy issues.
I have an M14 (same garand action) with vietnam era synthetic stock that floats at the end and it shoots tighter than with the original wooden stock.
I broke it down again and noticed that a small metal tab that wraps around the front of the stock was sticking out a little. I hammered it down and it fits a little tighter now. I'm sure it's just part of the synthetic stock design.
