Picture explains better than i can. 12-gauge sabot slug @ 25 yds. No the scope isnt sighted in thats why its nowhere near the center of the target.

Is that the whole sabot or is it the base wadding that is on some of them?

At 25 yds I wouldnt think it too uncommon. I always found pieces of my sabots 25 or more yds down range. Although this would indicate that they dropped away sooner.

Just the red wadding. The black part around the lead dropped off somewhere around that range. The actual slug didnt penetrate the target in the same spot. The dent the wadding made reminds me of a bullet i saw once after it hit kevlar (or so i was told, it was sorta mushroomed).

While I don't shoot sabots in my non-rifled 12 gauge, I shoot a lot of buckshot and slugs. It is not at all uncommon to see the wadding in the target. I'm not sure I can say I've had them hit at 25 yards, but most certainly they hit a lot of the time at lesser distances.

Take a look, here is a buckshot target @ 15 yds with a wad hole in it......

Hey, that sabot load would work good for some of these people seeking non-lethal loads. All they have to do is figure out where to aim so the slug misses the "alledged" perpetrator. And if they screw up, all they end up doing is what all the rest of us would do to begin with.
