I like mine, especially since Taurus decided to start using Novak 3-dot sights instead of the lousy Heinie Straight Eights. And some are now coming with rosewood grips too, in addition to the black plastic.

I still prefer my accessorized Springfield GI, but the Taurus is alot of gun for the money (got mine for $589).

It's always a typical snipe attack by people who hate Taurus. As you can see, nobody has supplied any evidence as to why the Taurus 1911 is "crap". So that speaks volumes in itself. All guns have lapses in QC and you can buy a lemon from any manufacturer. People just seem to really jump on the bandwagon if they have a defective Taurus. The bad apple spoils the bunch. I have a good feeling that most people commenting on the Taurus 1911 are actually just repeating something they've heard from others. There is a good amount of information available that shows the number of actual owners of the PT1911 are happy with the gun than those owning one that aren't/weren't happy.

+1. I've been shooting for over 40 years and have owned a lot of guns. Believe me, I've had lemons from every major manufacturer including colt, S&W, ruger, mauser, winchester, marlin and remington.

I agree with several other posts regarding these being a bargain at the initial $500.00; but not so much @ the $650.00 I am seeing now. That gets into Kimber & Colt territory. Also, I don't really care for front slide serrations and full-length guide rods on 1911's. I think some mods are done just for the sake of claiming & selling the mod, without offering any real benefit & Taurus has certainly run the full list on this offering. In the case of the full length rod, I think it adds nothing to accuracy, makes the gun more likely to bind and more difficult to take down. Very well made alternatives (Ed Brown, Wilson Combat, Les Bear, nighthawk), all make extremely tight, extremely accurate, and extremely reliable packages, objectives that are mutually exclusive in a $500.00 gun. It takes time (read a lot of money) to build all three traits into the same gun.

Just don't expect the $500 Taurus to be keep pace with a custom $2500 1911 and you won't be disappointed.

I respectively disagree. There's no reason the Taurus won't keep up with high end 1911 from other manufacturers. Besides the placebo effect of price.

Be warned if you buy a Taurus be prepared to see it bashed to no end and you looked at differantly due to your choices.

This isn't Nazi Germany my friend, scare tatics and that kind of bigotry isn't welcomed here on THE HIGH ROAD -because that's what we take.

I should have been more specific, and added "on the internet"
This site is great about stopping bashing and flaming,i just visit other sites and have to deal with it there.
So my appologies to THR,it doesnt happen here or its taken care of quikly.

At 500.00, I would try it. If it got up in the 650.00 or higher range, I would go with something else. The STI, Kimber, Springfield, or Colt comes to mind.

I have to agree. There have been some racy subjects discussed around these forums and I was initially surprised and proud to say that the members of The High Road have always kept the most open mind and looked into a matter from the highest perspective with the most thought and intelligence.

At $650 i would have tried the STI Spartan, but i got my PT1911 for $529.
Some dealers kill me whith how they price stuff,i found a RIA standard for $489.
Thats a $350 gun if you can find em in stock.

friends don't let friends buy taurus's

there are lower end 1911's that can outshoot $1000 custom ones, but taurus isn't one of them.

Taurus is not the only one that has recent price hike. Have you compared Kimber price from a few years ago?

I would recommend Springfield as an alternative ones to take a look that are at the similar price point as the Taurus.
