This happened...in Texas of all places.

As mentioned, anyone dumb enough to sell a gun at these lowball prices isn't smart enough to own one anyway.

And look at the numbers. First gun buyback in Ft Worth in 15 years and it gets 142 guns. I've got 3 neighbors with that many between them

I'm sure these poor fellas who returned their guns just neede the money.

Or money to buy drugs, followed by the need to buy weapons to protect their drugs, etc. And so the illicit weapon cycle repeats itself...

After reading this story I was angry. Then I bought a gun to replace one that has fallen into the hands of these evil doers. I feel much better now. I totally recommend it for those residents of DFW.

Now, that is good therapy. Even better, get down to the range and fire away.

I bet of those 300 guns turned in 285 were junk beaters.

Operational, how do you determine if a gun is operational if you don't test fire it.

Also, I bet all the gang bangers turned in their guns.

If I had some rusted out junker of a gun I would sell it for $50. I would then spend $50 at the grocery store and go buy some ammo.

What an oppertunity was missed. They should also have given them window stickers that said
" I sold all my guns at the local gun buyback. I think guns are evil."
They probably would put them on the front door for all to see.
I just helped cut a juvenile out of a car wreck who didn't make it through the process. Way more automobile deaths than gun deaths around here. A buyback for old junk cars that teenagers could afford would be a better idea.:D:

Anyone want to sponsor that bill for me?

Seriously, 300 guns?
That's nothing, especially compared to the population of Dallas.
That's not even foot-note-worthy in the news.
FWIW I'm more disappointed they ran a story calling it a success than the actual 'guns for groceries' nonsense.

Cash for clunkers?
That's stupid.
Talk about making it harder to be poor.

I saw some on TV, and it looked like there were a few nice Colt and S&Ws mixed in. Made me kind of sad.

I saw that piece on the local network. Two buy backs-- one in Dallas, one in Fort Worth-- on the same day. And not all were beaters. In fact, one in FW looked very much like a clean Thompson. I couldn't believe my eyes. I tried to find a link to the FW buy back but didn't have any luck. I was hoping someone here could confirm if it was in fact a Thompson.

Dallas isn't Texas. Ft. Worth I'm ashamed of.

Agreed. I cant say I'm surprised that something like this would happen in Dallas. However, I'm very disappointed, and a bit outraged, that Fort Worth was complicit in a gun grab. I'm going to let my city councilman know that I'm not the least bit pleased.

Haha, true...

I used to keep an old Lorcin around if somebody ever did one of these in AZ, haven't seen one yet, sold the gun years ago. Oh well. Can't call it a buy back - the government never owned them to begin with, it's a taxpayer sponsored government weapons purchase and criminal amnesty program.

I was born and raised a Texan.

My mother loved Texas so much that she insisted on pain of a haunting that she be returned to Texas and buried there rather than spend eternity in the ground of Oklahoma where she died.

I've lived in OK now for 24 of my 57 years. It took until 2001 before I gave up calling myself a Texan. I was proud to have been born and raised there. Now I'm an Oklahoman but until today I was still proud to have once been a tried and true Texan. After reading the OP all I can say is I'll never make the claim again. I'm ashamed to have been born and raised there. I'm sure my mother is turning over in her grave now but so be it.

LET THE HAUNTING BEGIN!

How in the name of God can they call these guns buy back's? At what point in time did the government own these weapons? The absurdity of allowing your enemy to set the verbiage.

Also,

Don't y'all have wild animals in Texas? Heck, if you get ONE deer you've got more than $200 worth of food. Oh well, I doubt many decent guns got turned in. I wish I'd bought every break-action .410 New England that I'd seen for $40 when I was younger, just for idiocy like this.

It would be nice if one of "us" was there to give the sellers fair-market values for what they are turning in.

I'm sure we'd be asked to leave within minutes :)
