CCW permit as ID

I asked the clerk, "do you know what kind of ID is this?" handing the card back. She looked at it again, trying to see what might be odd about it and handed it back saying something like, "huh?"
I explained what it was and she just kinda shrugged her shoulders saying, "a gun ID?" "It's a permit allowing me to have a concealed gun on me" I said.

It seems to me that you went out of your way to show off that you had a permit, and nobody cared.

Bravo.

In western Canada where I lived until a year ago I used my firearms license for ID since it had my picture on it and the paer work is the same as a passport. Here in Quebec I tried to use it as they had taken my other id away for me to get new stuff and they wouldn't even look at it. They almost got my goat that day but the language problem made it hard to argue much. I did use it for my lawyer when I bought the place here as they wanted two peices of picture ID and in Alberta we just have drivers license's with pictures and he had no idea what it was. I allwasy wonder the fact it says prohibited weapons on it has something to do with it.

In Orlando Airport a few years ago when checking in with my baggage the lady asked for ID and my ccw was the first thing in my wallet so I handed it to her, I thought she sh+t herself. She looked at me with wide eyes and said fairly loudly YOU'RE NOT CARRYING A GUN ARE YOU ? . I just laughed and said you're kidding right, this is an airport.

My LTC is not my first pick when I show ID, but I would not hesitate to use it if that is all I had. It is a state issued picture ID. As for disclosing whether or not you are carrying should not matter. You do not have to be carrying or carry a gun to have a LTC. Same with a driver's license. You (usually) do not have to own a car to have a DL and use it as an ID. I don't see the difference. It is not like you are yelling into a crowd of people saying you have a gun. Just my $.02

Don't try north Carolina CCW permit as an ID it has no picture on it . Just a white back ground and black letters ,kinda like a insurance card. Easy to miss place. Plastic wraped mine and taped it to my drivers card.

Again, no problem. Finally, on the fourth or so purchase I asked the clerk, "do you know what kind of ID is this?" handing the card back. She looked at it again, trying to see what might be odd about it and handed it back saying something like, "huh?"
I explained what it was and she just kinda shrugged her shoulders saying, "a gun ID?" "It's a permit allowing me to have a concealed gun on me" I said.

Maybe I don't understand, but an out of state photo ID rarely gets a second look. If you had shown a Ca. carry permit instead of a DL that may have raised a question. I get questioned from time to time if I use my passport as ID unless I'm in another country.

I think it is rude of people not to tremble in fear, and gaze in wide eyed wonderment at me, when I show them my permit. Sometimes I like to show it to old people just to see if I can make them have a stroke.

I was in a casino getting money from the atm one time, a security guard asked to see my ID, because I look young for my age, I showed him my DL and he grumbled a bit and walked away. Not a minute later a cop came and asked me to see my ID. I showed him my DL. He looked at it for about a minute scanning me then it, then me. He finally said that I am going to have to come with him, because he wasnt sure of the validity of my DL, and wanted to call me in. (They had recently changed and I still had an older version) I asked him if he would like to see another form of ID, he said yes if I had anything. I handed him my CCW and he asked if I was carrying, I said yes. He handed me both my DL and CCW and said have a good evening.

As was stated, the Florida CCW License has your picture and an anti-forgery hologram. I cannot imagine why other states do not have at least a picture of the person on it. Sure you might be required to carry a picture ID(assuming here) to show you are John Smith, but with the FL CCW you only need the one ID if you are out and about while carrying.

PA CWP have pictures in my county. Could use them for ID but see no reason to do so. All of my gun buying/selling, carrying, etc., is of no concern to the general public.

but with the FL CCW you only need the one ID if you are out and about while carrying.

I guess thats ok if your walking, but I bet they won't let it pass for a drivers license.

Hello friends and neighbors // In skidooman's case definately. // Otherwise nunya. // Just my style or lack of it. // To each their own

If you like to advertise CCW. I saw a web site where you can buy a CCW gold badge. (looks like a dective badge) Gold with blue writing I think $30.00. Didn't pay enough attention to remember site , not my style.

I talked to person at a security check in an airport last year, while waiting for my next flight, and we got on the ID subject. He told me that a CCW that had a picture was fine to use as an ID. I would use it. I don't care if anybody knows if that I have a permit.

I don't see why it couldn't be used as an ID. Allot of people have them. I know several people that have them that practice martial arts.

I used it one time

As second ID during a hiring process (non-LEO). Bad idea. "Look, you know we don't allow guns..." Never again.

I have used mine as a second piece of ID to get on a US Air Force Base as a Contractor. Drivers license and Handgun permit is as good as Drivers License and US Passport.

She still didn't get it. Now, I have a feeling the other clerks before her never even read what it said on the card, they were just satisfied that it had my picture on it.

i think she was just satisfied you had a govt issued picture id.

About a year ago I lost my driver license & it took me like a week to get a new one.

During that week like 4 or so bars/clubs in my area wouldn't accept it as a form of legitimate ID. The Bouncers that denied me entrance stated that they could only accept a Federal and State recognized form of ID which were a Driver License, Identification Card, and Passport.

The bouncers that did accept it were guys familiar with CCW licenses and let me in no prob.

p.s. I obviously didn't have a gun on me since I was going into a bar, but I have a hunch that the ones that denied me maybe thought otherwise.........?

I have used my restricted firearms permit for ID in westren Canada no problem but in Eastern Canada they wouldn't even pick up off the counter and to get one is the same paper work plus as a passport.

Contrary to th rules that were previously posted, I used my PA (with picture) LTCF as ID for a flight. I took my DL out my wallet (for some unfathomable reason that I forget) this spring and discovered my error in the security line at BWI airport. TSA accepted it with no hassles on outbound and return flight. The car rental in my destination city was another matter:banghead:

hokkmike says:
Право держать и рукоятки медведя не будут infringed на.

hokkmike, what da heck does your sig mean? "Right to hold the handles of a bear will not be infringed on"
Do bears in Russia have handles?

Skidooman, can you give me one good reason why NV will not honor Utah's CCW permit? iirc Utah will honor NV's permits. Not fair!:banghead:

Just curious

One time flying up to Chicago to see my wife's grandparents, she left her Texas DL at home because our daughter goes through her wallet and throws things in strange places. Neither in Houston or Chicago, did TSA seem to mind that all she gave them was a Texas CHL. We were really worried about it in Chicago though.
