About a year ago I got my first pistol, intending to use it for concealed carry..... I got a Ruger SR9, and while I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my SR9..... it's just too bulky for it's purpose, I want to be able to conceal w/o printing, and it's just not going to happen w/ my beloved friend.

The range I go to has some Sigs that you can rent, and I have had great experiences with Sig in the past, that leave me lusting over the 229 and and 239...... but it's been a while (lead and pregnancy don't mix :(), so I need to see if they have one small enough for cc. The other one I am considering is the Ruger LCP. Where I already have a Ruger and love it, I am inclined to give it some trust (and I have heard great things about it). The price of the LCP is definitely better, but part of me really doesn't want to go smaller than a 9mm and as stated before, I lust for Sig. Also I don't know of anywhere I could test drive the LCP.

What would be your thoughts? (Just going to put it out there I HATE Glocks, so please don't recommend one )

Assess your level of threat and you just might realize that carrying concealed doesn't have to be unpleasant or even noticeable. I have several pistols that I am able to carry, from a Glock 19 to Springfield government model, however I carry a Ruger LCP as my edc in a pocket holster. I have yet to feel ill equipped.

I considered the Kel-Tec PF-9, the Kahr PM-9, the Ruger LCP and LCR - ended up with a Taurus PT-709. Not quite a pocket carry, but just about right for what I was looking for. Decided I preferred 9mm to .380 - just a personal preference. Cheaper and more available ammunition, which allows me to spend more time at the range with the 709.

The 229 and 239 are pretty big and heavy for carry (I carry a 239 and 228 sometimes in cold weather months). In summer months, I carry a Kel-Tec PF-9 or P-3AT. The PF-9 is hard to beat for a small, light, 7+1 9mm. If you're considering .380, how about the Sig 232 or the new 238?

Wow, I just looked and I am actually really liking the 238 Nitron with the Rosewood grips. I'll have to give it a try at the range.... thanks for the suggestion.

I carry a Glock Model 27 in a Galco "ankle glove" as my BUG. Very comfortable, and 10 rounds of .40 S&W is nice to have. However, I am required to use Glock by department policy. If I had my choice, I'd carry something else. But the point is, they make some very concealable firearms in pretty decent calibers. Good luck in the search.

I also had a Beretta 84 in .380 that was a great shooter.

What you can conceal depends on your carry method, how you dress and your body type. It is certainly possible that these three factors rule out being able to cc the SR9. I have recently been carrying a CZ75 IWB on my right hip under an untucked T-shirt. The CZ is probably a little bigger than the SR9. I personally think it's important to carry a full size gun of some kind just because it's going to be so much more effective than a smaller handgun in the event I have to use it.
