I couldn't wait to get my hands on the Steyr SBS rifle chambered in 376 when I read about it- finally found one about 5 years ago for a decent price and got it.
First shot from the handy length rifle was a 200 yard bulls on a 3/8" steel man silhouette target.
Using Hornady 270gr ammo, the bullet punched a nice hole in the target - my buddy HAD to touch off a round, he owns the place after all. Mind you, the iron sights were what we were using. He had a kill shot on the target also.
Recoil is brisk to say the least, but this is a 20" barrel 7.25lb rifle shooting a 270gr projectile at or around 2700fps. I'm rough guessing 25-35lbs recoil energy.
To date it has been fired all of 22 times - used on one live hog over 250lbs with a one shot drop at 150yards and the rest semi formal target shooting.
I REALLY like this round, it is a great performer for the reloader, and wrings some great performance out of the relatively small case volume.
It seems this round has been left for dead....I love the case design, and am thinking about making a 7mm/376 for my very first wildcat, being as the brass around here isn't going anywhere soon.:banghead: working every weekend is nice for the bank account, but really gets old.
But to get back on target of this thread, anyone:
own this caliber - past or present ?
Does anyone miss it?

Left to right: .308 Win, .350 Rem Mag,
.376 Steyr, .375 H&H

Wildcats have been made using the Steyr case already. Nothing really came of them.

I built a Steyr several years ago out of a surplus Mauser action. Good cartridge.
