I recently inherited a Marlin Mod 75 22LR... one problem... I can not open the breech. As hard as I pull back there is no movement. It feels as if it is mechanically locked somehow. Any suggestions?

I had one of those many years ago. I seem to remember the
bolt "lever" can be pushed into the bolt to lock the bolt in the
rear position. (lock it open) I never tried it; but I wonder if
it could be pushed inward with the bolt closed. Try pulling the
lever or handle out to see if this frees the bolt.

above dude is right, the bolt handle is proly pushed in. pull out on it, then pull it back. That is how you lock this bolt open; push in, when you have it the bolt pulled back.

I'm afraid that does not work. The bolt is in the closed position. The lever will move slightly in and out, but it still will not slide open. What else could it be?

don't know, could be the ejector wire, somehow stuck under it, could be a broken guide rod. Time to start taking it apart.

Possibly a shattered recoil buffer jamming the internals with bits and pieces. Take it apart. They're easy to work on and all parts can be had at Numrich.

OK... I disassembled but could find nothing obviously wrong, other that the breech still not opening. Looks like the rifle graveyard is the next stop.

Toss it my way...I don't rightly know what's wrong, but just don't be pissed if I fix it. PM for address, shipping is on me. :D

I've gotta ask - did you check to be sure there is no cartridge in the chamber ? If you can't see the mouth of the chamber because of the bolt being stuck forward, you can carefully insert a cleaning rod from the muzzle and see where it bottoms out.

Once confirmed that there is no live round in the chamber. Before scraping the rifle, I would use a flat headed screwdriver to pry the bolt back away from the chamber.

Rob

I know Mav was there first, but if you're going to get rid of it, I've got one that needs parts. I could sure use a second. I'd also pay shipping.

I also have one of these and I had some MAJOR feed issues with it when it was first passed down to me. But a little work and it is now my favorite .22lr. DONT toss this gun. But of course if you really want to I am sure any of the guys in this thread would not mind it.

Certainly tap it back with a rubber mallet. If you don't feel comfortable with that or it does not work then I am sure most gun smiths have worked on about a billion of these guns so a good gun smith might have an easy fix.

Victory!!! The rubber Hammer freed the bolt. There still seems to be a problem with the fit. Where it didn't want to open, it now will not close all the way when pulled back and released. Before I inherited the gun it was not taken care of properly. I hoping a godd cleaning and some gun oil will help a lot. Thanks to you all for the help provided. And... sorry... I'll be keeping it now!!!
