Has anyone heard if Kahr has any intentions of making replacement barrels to change the caliber of a Kahr PM40 from .40S&W to .357 Sig??

I enjoy the ability to convert caliber in Sig 229 by merely swapping out the barrel.

.357 SIG in that little thing? :what:

I doubt it would be feasible or even safe, since IMO the .40 is already pushing the limits of the gun's design, and .357 SIG operates at even higher pressure.

That gun is already specifically designed and engineered for the cartridge.

I would stick with the .40 S&W even if I could get a .357 SIG barrel. I have had both in a SIG pistol, but I retired the .357SIG barrel to the gun safe. It's a PITA to reload the .357SIG.

Well, I'd have to take exception to the comment that the .40 is already pushing the envelope of the gun's safety. The Kahr PM-40 was designed for the .40. The .357 uses a case SIMILAR to the .40 with additional metal in the base area to contain the explosive force. Personally, if Kahr makes it, I'm fully confident in the engineering and manufacturing to be a safe product.
I agree it will be a handful in the small PM40 package but in this day and age where everyone is trying to stuff a .454 in a 2" snubby, I feel this is a doable combo.

It seems I'm wrong. I asked about the .357 Sig conversion barrel for the PM40. Here is Kahr's response:

Ralph,
We've looked into a .357 barrel. Unfortunately it doesnt work as easily as you'd think because of the offest feed ramp and becuase the higher pressure round, creates a lot of wear. Our pistols are a lot smaller and lighter than say a glock or sig that has the interchangable barrel so it takes a lot more of a beating. I don't think you're going to see an interchangable barrel, especially for a PM series. An aside, did you have Cylinder and Slide do your porting for you, or someone else?
