Dramatic price drops in firearms

Dude, it wasn't that they overstocked. Buying stopped. Dried up. Dead. Gone.

If you're gonna have a store, you need to have something in inventory.

Trouble is, things sit on the shelf about so long and they get "shelf wear". Slight damage from normal handling. Guns get nicked, packages get frayed. Gotta turn 'em.

I have received several email from online gun stores in the past several weeks. Prices on AK's $399-450, AR's $650 and up. Same with several other over produced weapons, But this may be short lived, things in general look bad as you all know, and even though everyone is hurting they are all going to want a gun.

Be that as it may, still, anyone who didn't realize that buying was going to slow down was ignoring fundamental economics. It's called equilibrium.

It's the same thing I was telling people when I was still living in kalifornistan re housing. I told them not to buy at the peak because the bottom was going to fall out.

I had friends who were panic buying and are now stuck.

Same principle.

Anyone know a place in the Philly, PA area for decent AK-47s under $500?

I haven't seen dramatic price drops in anything I've bought, but then again I didn't rush out to get an EBR when the prices were at their peak, either. I have what I need, and I wasn't going to pay that kind of money for more (per what harmonic wrote, the prices weren't going to stay there).

To an extent, I think that "gotta have it" guns, many sold to people who seldom shoot them, are what went up the most. These sales weren't driven by steady participation in shooting competition, hunting, etc. They were driven by the spirit of "gotta have it".

If I look around at guns used for match shooting or hunting, the prices haven't varied that much. Match-grade AR-15s were never cheap, and the "gotta have it" crowd wasn't buying the kinds of guns that go for $2500 when prices are low.

That doesn't mean that serious shooters don't ever buy an AK, even though they won't be using it for hunting or competition. For $400 or whatever, it's a fun toy and maybe a SHTF gun. This demographic doesn't, however, rush to buy one for an exorbitant price.

For those who whined during the price hike period, now is your second chance.
I don't want to hear about any excuses later on.

Here's a big AMEN.

NOW is the time to support the 2nd amendment when it's easy. You can get "evil" guns for a decent price. If people won't buy now, they're just dumb.

As soon as the health care bill passes, and we have next years elections behind us, the Democrats will push for a new AWB and prices will skyrocket again.

Ive seen new entry level Ar's for ~$600, Ruger mini 14's for ~$450, heck we had that thread the other day with stripped lowers going for $50. There has been a definite drop. I am a member of the tin foil brigade that believes that now that firearms have been dragged into the political arena along with foriegn oil that price of ammo and firearms alike will fluxuate with the political climate. Price's will not come down and stay down.

BTW, does this guy have any SA M1A Scout rifles w/walnut stock?

That's a full sized National Match and not so great price. I'm looking for a Scout. I can get one locally for ~$1400.

price on PSL 7.62x54R dropped by 100 bucks (well may be by 60 bucks if you look at what's in the package.). within 2 weeks. Aim had them for 580 or something, and then centerfiresystem is selling them now for 440 with one mag and without a scope. I do not know what also is different about them.


However prices on 30 year old corrosive, non reloadable mil surplus ammo are still high in my vew (7.62x54R and 7.62x39 should be below 15 cents per round with shipping in my book -- so I will see if I am wrong)

.308 surplus, re-loadable prices are just a joke, well beyond reasonable.


So my overall strategy for that stuff is to wait and accumulate cash and then buy before inflation kicks in (which should be obvious from the job report).

Buds, Guns America, Gunbroker, etc, if you put yourself on buds mailing list and create an account, they will notify you of the gun you are interested in when they get it in stock. I have gotten several of these emails like the one about AK and AR's.

Prices on some items have dropped, but not by a lot. There are more ARs on sale like Olys, S&W, and some other brands I haven't heard of. Still no DPMS, Bushmaster, or Colts.

I don't think the Obama buying frenzy went away so much as people are not doing well economically. Layoffs, job uncertainty, no bonuses, no pay raises, more people saving etc.

Obama getting elected was more like the cash for clunkers deal- people who were on the fence or wanting one but couldn't justify it found a reason.

Also keep in mind there is no ammo (out by me anyway) and when there is it is snatched up fast unless it is very expensive. Still can't find large pistol primers.

I haven't seen any dramatic price drops and I look hard.

Guns and ammo have dropped. A couple of online sites ( I will not mention the name, except they are in Florida) have not dropped their prices.

AR 15 lowers are out there from $50 to $80. 7.62X39 is down to $250 for 1000 rounds.
I have never stoped buying.

FWIW:

I've noticed a reduction in prices on AR15's and the like, but here in my little part of the world (S.E. Ga.) I haven't seen that same reduction in small arms..

Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong places, but pistols and revolvers seem to have increased in prices rather than decreased...

With the economy in the shape it's in, and with unemployment at an all time high (more or less) I would not be surprised to see many things decrease in actual selling prices vs advertised, or retail prices.

My friend is a big "assault" rifle fan, and he was telling me how much those particular weapons have decreased in price recently AS COMPARED to a year or so back when the new "Administration" took office.

Guess he was lucky... He bought his when they were at an all time high...

In my neck of the woods prices are still pretty high & 7.62x??? is still scarce and expensive. Of course, we are a large town w/ a small town shooting community infrastructure (2 LGSs, 1 LGS outside of town, & 2 gun-dealing pawn shops).

Around my neck of the woods:
EBR's have dropped some. M1A's are still mega bucks. Even SKS's and AK's are still overpriced.
Classic sporting firearms and MilSurps are WAY up.
I've been seeing beater post-64 Winchester Model 94's at $600.
Colt 1911's and Pythons, P&R'ed S&W's, WW2 Garands, Carbines, and 1903's are just crazy expensive.
And just forget any old west era firearms like SAA' and Winchesters. Insane.

Sure wish the down turn would show up around here.

A lot of folks have AR's and no .223 to shoot.

BUY AMMO ON LINE. Sportsman guide, Cabalas, and a bunch more out there. they deliver it to your front door....however some states you can't. And California soon nobody can.

I see lots of .223 around, Sportsman Warehouse and even Wal Mart. Handgun ammo other than .40....not so much.

AR's may be down, but handguns are the same following the run up. I don't see any reductions other than a manufacturers sponsored sale. Last week at Sportsman Warehouse in Chattanooga you could get an XD compact 9 or .40 for $412. plus tax. Three days only. A good deal. I would like to see S&W M&Ps back at $450 like they were three years ago!!

Carrying costs are going to eat up the profits, better to sell them at cost pluse 10% than sit on them.

The next two big things. Inflation and when Israel visits Iran and the commensurate gas goes back to $4. That will incite the panic buying.... again and another ammo shortage and hike in EBR prices.

Oh and don't forget, having a gun around the house is going to increase your health insurance rates; that is unless everything you own is unregistered. But then there is a reward for your neighbor to rat you out.

I was in my LGS today and the fellow I was talking to told me that they had been selling some guns at a loss just to get rid of them. I have noticed that things have just been setting on the shelf. Ammo is still scarce. I've kind of removed myself from the gun market for the most part.

I haven't seen huge price drops either. Ammo still seems to be the same price too.
