Why CCW?

It's been fun guys and you answered my original question quite accurately. Good luck in the barb wire hotel or in the mass grave they have planned for you. FRJ

What is more likely? That I will need a gun to defend myself, or that The Man is coming door to door to take my guns?

There are two ways to look at this. The Ted Nugenters say "The Second Amendment is my concealed carry license, PERIOD." But I bet that Uncle Ted has at least one issued CCW permit. There are those who think that the process of asking for a permit to carry a firearm is the same thing as admitting that you don't have rights, because you are asking for permission to exercise a right named in The Constitution.

I THINK, the fact that 40 of 50 states now issue permits to any law abiding citizen leaves the other ten in the spotlight, looking more and more absurd in DENYING the right to their citizens. The momentum and perception of bearing arms has been greatly influenced in the last 15 years. More people than ever are understanding that normal people carry guns, and guns don't make people bad. This is a GOOD thing, no matter how you cut it. A reciprocity bill was within TWO VOTES of passing the senate this summer, I never would have bet it would have made it to the house.

This is a case where being absolute, demanding all or nothing would not have gotten us to where we are today.

you answered my original question quite accurately.
We did? Well I believe most tired to answer why we hold CCW permits/licenses. You sound utterly unconvinced, so at this point I don't know what kind of enlightenment you are seeking.

Having said that, you haven't answered really any of the counter points these guys have raised. If you suggest that we shouldn't buy guns after 1968, what about those of use who weren't alive then to do so? Are you suggesting that we should not buy any guns so the government can't take our right to do so away? That's pretty self-defeating logic.

And you don't think we should get CCW licenses. But you don't seem to be advocating unlicensed concealed carry. (Which would probably have made your buddy's traffic stop MUCH less pleasant than it was!) In fact, you say don't see any need to carry a concealed handgun. So you fear an eventual government crackdown, someday, more than you fear getting killed by some punk in a Stop & Rob for the $50 in your wallet? That seems a lot more likely to me (and more likely TODAY, tomorrow, or sometime soon) than any mass confiscation and imprisonment. As the Brits would say (back when they had important things to say), "Penny wise, pound foolish."

And you must know that you are already totally "implicated" in any listing of gun owners through any number of other associations, memberships, activities and such. Do they keep you awake at night, too? Or just the CCW "list?"

Good luck in the barb wire hotel or in the mass grave they have planned for you.

That is so over the top and cliche'd that I can't imagine that you're serious. Man, come in from the cold. It isn't as bad as all that. Not yet, at least.

And there are some who have CCW who have owned unregistered guns that have been in their family for years that don't have a criminal past and will only have to surrender the firearms that are registered. I know plenty of people without a criminal past that own firearms and do not have a CCW. This is common in rural areas. People did and still do hunt to put food on the table. Owning legal unregistered guns should not be a problem for law abiding citizens. And the government should NOT have the right to make them criminals for owning firearms. For law abiding citizens it should always be a a personal choice and part of the liberty guaranteed by the constitution.

Yep. Exercise your rights and expect to end up in jail or be executed. But, be happy, because we're free.

Excuse me, that may be your position, but it's not mine. Go into your bedroom, assume the fetal position, and reflect on your freedom.

And enjoy it.

I may be dense but if I was the gvt. and looking to confiscate firearms I would probably go after those that had been kind enough to tell me that they owned guns.
If the government decides to confiscate our guns, there will be little we can do with a gun to stop that. We cannot out shoot the government. It is not an issue over which I am willing to commit suicide. I obey a lot of laws I don't like.

I also think you are pissing into the wind if you think that you won't be the first to get the visit from the law when things go upside down. Actually I have never purchased a firearm using the fed form.Almost all of my firearms were purchased well before the GCA 68.

And “they” still haven't come for them? Amazing. You must be on to something.

You realize Red Dawn was fiction, don't you?

Fla. has CCW. Ican carry pretty much anything but explosives and "ballistic" knives (blades that are proprelled by a charge). Handgun, auto knife, spray, sap, baseball bat, rolling pin, iron skillet, anything.

I don't own many and the ones I do own are primarily hunting guns not handguns

Oh really?

You know, you should avoid getting yourself on that dastardly hunting license list too.

They only pull us pistol-packers out of cars with flimsy evidence on traffic stops.

You should hear the stories of what The Man does to hunters. Ever see the movie Deliverance?

Uh oh. Too late.

I have had men and women object to my using the terms "sir" and "mam" and that's their problem. I was too well trained in both my home by my parents and relatives and later by the military that these were courteous titles not something derogeratory. I guess I could address them as dickhead and bitch but I doubt that would get me anything I really wanted.

You're on the military list!

You're among the same group of folks Janet Napolitano declared as dangerous threats to the American government. And unless you served before World War II, they have your fingerprints and dental records already on file.

Get the permit, or don't. It doesn't really matter to me. But don't come on a board dedicated to firearms use and call us all a bunch of chumps because you think you've somehow managed to outsmart "the system". Get over yourself. Go enjoy life.

The day that I am afraid to exercise my rights is the day that I no longer have them.

That says all that needs to be said on the topic. A right one is afraid to exercise really isn't much of a right at all, now is it? I have a CCW, I've filled out 4473s, belong to the NRA, etc. I shoot at a range frequented by LEO's, and I've written my state's respresentatives numerous times on the issue of gun control (and have always had favorable results, for what its worth). . I hunt every year, with a legally purchased license under my own name. Its no secret I'm a gun owner, nor do I believe it should have to be. i have nothing to be ashamed of, and have done nothing illegal in regards to my firearms. I think the peace of mind and legality that comes with a CCW is worth any trade-off of rpivacy I may have made. Our lists of permit holders aren't made public in this state, and I don't yet have an irrational fear that they are "coming for me" when I've done absolutely nothing wrong in that regard.

No one is anonymous on the internet.

Everyone, allow me to introduce you to Frank Johnson of Vancouver, Washington.

Frank, this is everyone.

I thought we ought to all get to know each other a little before we get to the concentration camps. With some proper advance planning we can organize ourselves into knitting circles so we can pass the time until the ovens are finished. I'll bring the yarn with me; who's bringing the knitting needles and wicker baskets?

“In Germany they first came for the Communists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists,
and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics,
and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me —
and by that time no one was left to speak up.”

Hi Frank! I'm Sam. Good to know you. You've got a lot of nice guns, it seems. If I ever get up that way, maybe we could go shoot.

Take it easy and don't stress about the gov't too much. Remember, in the end, the government is still made up of people. People who want to get, and keep, those elected positions. You have a voice and should use it to make the world a better place for yourself and others. Trying to hide under a rock won't even save your own butt, let alone make your life or your friends' and family's lives worth living.

As I pointed out before, might as well go get that permit, now ... :D

O.k. So what's the rest of the story? He had a tail light out, got pulled over, the cop ID'd him as having a CCW permit, and on the basis of that cuffed & stuffed him, took his gun, and then what? Was there a charge? Did he/you file a formal complaint? What actually happened?
Now how did I know when I saw this posted that the questions were going to go unanswered...

Too piggy back on this post...

Frank, I would like to add that being afraid of your Govt is not a good thing and historically has not worked well for societies that were. Oh by the way, I'm Eric.

John,

Go easy on the laddy.

The cop probably murdered his friend and buried him in a shallow grave outside of town. I'm also guessing he threatened to do the same to Frank if he ever spoke a word to anyone else about it. We're lucky we even found out this much about the incident.

Ah, that is special. He even used his initials as his screen name... it really adds to the anonymity. He's proudly off the hit list!

Watch out BullfrogKen, the "man" is probably on the way to your house now because you are onto the cover up. Get off the grid and find yourself some tinfoil, I'm told it goes shiny side out. Good luck!
