Hey guys. I was wondering if anyone who owns a PT 1911 has changed their grips and if so, did you change the grip screws as well?
I aquired my PT 1911 used and never thought about removing the grips until recently. I purchased some new grips from RAASCO (love'em) and when I tried to remove the existing grip screws I found out that the previous owner had stripped the heads (they're allen head screws). I got 3 out of 4 out, but the last one just isn't coming out and I will probably destroy the screw taking it out. Not to mention, I'm not putting the old ones back in. I called Taurus and found out that they want $4 EACH for replacement screws.
I plan to take the gun to a local gunsmith to see what can be fitted to work, but was just curious if anyone knows if regular (other) 1911 grip screws will fit. I know the Taurus screws are metric, but I'm thinking that's only the head and other screws should fit fine.
Thanks for any input that might be helpful.
