Here is a pic of my current setup on my AR. The problem I am having is the optic is set too low. I also want to keep co-witnessing the BUIS if not absolute, then at least lower third. I use them about 50% of the time and do not want to lose that ability. Any suggestions on a mount that would help would be great.

Thanks gents,

Damian

Lower 1/3 works the best for me. It keeps my head up better and less sight clutter.
I use a Larue Tactical LT129 cantilever with my Aimpoint ML3.

What optic is that, looks aimpointish?

It's a Millet Zoom-Dot, I was sold on the idea of an adjustable dot size and pretty damn good battery life (10,000 hours on 1MOA dot). I used the M68 a lot while in and the only complaint I had was how damn big the dot was (4MOA) when trying to shoot out to distances past 100 yards. So when I read up on this sight, I was curious and then I played with one at the fun shop and bought it on the spot.

I am with Zero on this one. I have a similar setup although I don't use the Cantilever on mine. a lower 1/3 is the only way to go. You can still easily use your BUIS, but they are more out of the way.

Oh and you know the M3 has a 2MOA version? ;)

It's a 30mm tube body, so any 30mm picatinny scope ring or aimpoint mount will work. Larue makes some mighty fine products.

That looks smaller than an Aimpoint. I think the AP is 30mm, I'm not familiiar with that scope.

I have the 2Moa dot on my ML3. But my next AP ML3 will be the 4moa. I want to try that larger dot on my P90. I'll bet that the bigger dot looks better as you shrink it on lower settings. My ML3 2moa dot goes from star blur blob to weird jellybean. Never really been a "dot".

Let me preface what I am going to say by saying that Aimpoints are very fine sights and are very durable and have their positives. The reason I went with mine even with the 2MOA Aimpoints out there is because the adjustable dot size is very handy to me.

I am looking into the Larue mounts now and can anyone answer this with some detail: Why are their mounts so damn expensive? I understand that quality comes at a cost, but what is in their products that justifies their asking prices?

I mount all my AR scopes on a B Square quick detach base. Very reliable and returns to zero all the time. Well made for a good price and gets me a little height on my scopes to clear BUIS. This way I can switch out glass in a few seconds and go from a 1-4 x 28 to my longer range scopes. I use the Tac-0008 and you can generally find it on the net for <$50.

The price for Larue products is on par with other manufacturers of like quality. When you buy a Larue product, you know you are getting incredible quality products from a manufacturer that will stand behind what they build. Their warranty is written in plain english and can be summed up as "if you ain't happy, we ain't happy". They're great folks to do business with.

Get a Larue product in your hand with a lower-cost alternative for comparison, and you'll understand the difference in price.

Damian -- I will send you a picture of what I did for my AR's Red Dot to Co-witness in the lower 1/3. It works well and my accuracy at 100 yards is phenomenal.
