$300 NRA life membership is back

Just got off the phone. They said they've been completely swamped with Life Member upgrades and that "they were told" the backlog was about 3 weeks. I said my packet was sent Priority Mail and received January 28, and she said to give it another week and call back because she has no information at this time.

(I'm guessing it's just a mail backlog so there's no way their computer system could tell anything.)

But really, the information on her screen is the same as what www.nramemberservices.org has, so calling might be a waste of time. I guess people could continue to check that site to see if their status says "Life."

At the end of the call, out of sheer curiosity I asked if she knew the current number of NRA Members and was told 4.3 Million.

4.3 million NRA members out of about 310 million, total U.S. population...

That works out to just under 1.4 % of the total population, which is a small percentage, but still make up a huge number of members.

There's no change on my end. If people were sending me money like the NRA is getting, I'd have them checks cashed already....

I don't do a life membership with any organization. I may be happy with what they're doing now, but 5 yrs from now? There are other organizations that are actively working to protect our 2nd amendment rights besides the NRA.

I'll call first thing tomorrow morning and post what they say. I'll try to speak with a supervisor or someone higher up, politely but firmly of course. We know for a fact from the USPS tracking number that the package was delivered to their mail center. We can also assume that they wouldn't throw away a chunk of 19 checks worth $5700. It's probably in a pile somewhere. My goal is to get them to find that pile.

I wish I had more power in this guys! Rest assured that I'll keep them on their toes.

If it's any consolation, they do take 1-2 months sometimes to cash a check. Like if you make a donation to NRA-ILA or NRA Training Department, it does get backlogged.

I understand what you're saying. You never know if an organization is going to change. It does take a leap of faith. The NRA does have a pretty darn good track record, over all. I did a 50% off Life Membership upgrade and decided it'd be cheaper in the long run. Plus I hate staying on top of renewing every year.

Just called. The kind lady said there were only "2 of us" working in the Life Member department (at least in the Mail Center). She asked for the USPS tracking number. Out of curiosity she asked if there was a signature, and I said I only did Priority Mail with Delivery Confirmation. (Note to everyone in future: If this offer comes up again, go ahead and pay for the Signature.) Said she would track down the envelope and give me a call back.

Diane from NRA just returned my call 2 minutes ago. She had me verify one of the people that I had signed up and said that from the USPS tracking number that the packet was sent to their processing center in Palm Coast, Florida. (Obviously). She said she would talk to a supervisor there and get back to me.

Glad to hear they are working on it.

Good news. I'm part of Sam's group and finally had my check cashed. No change in status yet, though.
